The White Mountains are stunning and we cannot wait to share a slice with you. The hike begins in a beautiful deciduous forest (maple, oak, birch) with a vast understory. As you climb, the forest changes from deciduous trees to mostly spruce and fir trees. Eventually the trail will level out and drop you down to Lonesome Lake where you can see the hut across the water. Choose either direction to walk to the hut. Left will bring you through more spruce/fir forest whereas right will take you through the bog across many bridges. The hike begins from Lafayette Campground on the Lonesome Lake trail. It is a 1.6 mile hike with 1,000ft of elevation gain. The White Mountains are notorious for going straight up hill on uneven, rocky trails and Lonesome Lake trail is no exception. Take your time, there is no rush.
Lonesome Lake hut is a pack-in/pack-out facility. Anything you bring with you, we kindly ask that you bring out with you. Lonesome is completely off-the-grid and is powered by solar energy. This means there are no outlets and there are no showers. There is a bathroom which has composting toilets and cold running water. The hut is divided into three buildings: a common area along with upper and lower bunk houses. The bunk houses are divided into 4 or 6-person rooms. These rooms provide bunk beds with three wool blankets and a pillow. See our pack list for further information.
We will be gathering at the dock, at the base of Lonesome, for the ceremony. We will have blankets spread out around the dock to sit on. Feel free to wear whatever you feel good in. We are calling it Hiker Chic. Just a reminder there are are no showers at the hut and no outlets. Feel free to jump in the lake for a quick rinse but we ask you do not use any soap to help protect this beautiful ecosystem.
We will be having a traditional family style hut dinner. Dinner will include soup, bread, salad and a main course. If you have any dietary restrictions please let us know when you RSVP and we can have the croo help make you a meal that fits with your dietary needs.
The hut has asked that 11pm be quiet hours for the hut croo to get some sleep, this means the main hut and the bunk cabins will be for sleeping, but the party doesn't have to stop! Come down to the dock and we can keep dancing or star viewing
Breakfast will be bright and early at 8am! Cakers and real NH maple syrup!
