The Art Institute of Chicago
Both of us have a love for art and there is no better place to check out than the Art Institute of Chicago. The impressionist wing alone has our mouths gaping every time.
Music Box Theatre
This might seem like an unconventional pick, but since it's Halloween weekend we highly recommend you check out the Midnight Madness showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Music Box Theatre. Attending a showing is a must-do during Halloween!
Chicago Diner
For vegetarians, vegans and veggie-inclined folks we recommend the Chicago Diner. It has been a favorite of our for years. If you go don't forget to try out one of their vegan milkshakes!
Pequod's Pizza
What about deep dish? While we don't indulge in this Chicago delicacy every week, on special occasions Pequod's is by far our favorite place for deep dish pizza! Be sure to give yourself plenty of time, as you often need to give the kitchen an extra 30-40 minutes to make sure everything is cooked all the way through.
Portillo's Hot Dogs
Looking for a Chicago dog or Italian Beef? Look no further than Portillo's! We're recommended the location off of Addison Street, but there are multiple locations to choose from. Make sure to pick up a slice of chocolate cake, or even better a chocolate cake shake while you're there.
Museum Campus
Along Lake Michigan you will find the Shedd Aquarium, the Field Museum of Natural History, and the Adler Planetarium. Take your pick, they're all worth a visit!
Girl & The Goat
If you're a foodie check out any of, Top Chef winner, Stephanie Izard's restaurants. Her original location, Girl & The Goat is listed here, but her other namesake's Little Goat and Duck Duck Goat are equally as delicious, less expensive, and easier to make a reservation for.
Peckish Pig
If you're looking for a place near the venue the Peckish Pig (who owns our venue) is right next door!
Flaco's Tacos
Also near the venue is Flaco's Taco's (a favorite of Katie's maid of honor, and seconded by the couple). Flaco's has delicious Mexican food and excellent margaritas!
The Gundis Kurdish Kitchen
Our favorite place for brunch is The Gundis Kurdish Kitchen. They offer a beautiful spread of cheese, fresh bread and spreads, and your choice of scramble.
Two Hearted Queen - Boystown
Two Hearted Queen is our favorite place for coffee and pastries. Don't miss out on their scones!
Lincoln Park Zoo
If the weather permits we recommend checking out Lincoln Park Zoo! The zoo is free to enter and offers both a beautiful view of the skyline while you check out the animal exhibits.
The Joffrey Ballet
Katie and Michelle met in dance class, and both have a continued love for the art. If you too are a lover of ballet look into the Joffrey ballet's offering of performances. Love theatre? Check out Broadway in Chicago and the Lyric Opera! Often performances come to Chicago before they premiere on Broadway in New York City. You never know what the next big show may be!
Tapster Lincoln Park
A favorite of ours for drinks is Tapster in Lincoln Park! Tapster is self-serve, allowing customers to purchase drinks by the ounce, a perfect choice for those who are less than decisive.
The Second City
World renowned comedy club, that has produced comedians such as Tina Fey, Bill Murray, Amy Poehler, Chris Farley, and much more! For even more comedy also check out IO (formerly known as Improv Olympics), which creates equally as hilarious comedy (Katie and Michelle highly recommend the Improvised Shakespeare Company).
