Shug's is an adorable, classic vintage-style soda fountain and ice cream shop just outside of Pike Place Market, just a few doors down from Metsker Maps! With their delicious desserts of all kinds and cozy, retro aesthetic, Shug's is an instant favorite for everyone who visits- including us! One of our absolute favorite places to grab a tasty treat!
A truly iconic Seattle landmark, Pike Place Market opened in 1907 and is the oldest continuous farmers market in the country! Even over a century later, Pike Place is THE place for everything local, including freshly-caught fish, flowers, artisan and specialty foods, fresh produce, coffee, art, pottery, and much, MUCH more! A tourist destination that is worth the hype, Pike Place Market is a great way to spend the day!
One of our favorite book stores in the area, and when you learn more about it, you'll know why! Located just inside Pike Place, Left Bank Books is a small, co-op bookstore established by Seattle's radical community in the early 1970s. They specialize in anti-authoritarian, anarchist, independent, radical, and small-press titles, and stock books across a myriad of subjects, including: anarchism, queer & trans studies, feminist studies, Black studies, Native studies, Latinx studies, immigration studies, race & colonial studies, disability studies, poetry, graphic novels, parenting, labor history, science fiction, sexuality, politics, environmentalism, and MUCH more.
A classic used bookstore, Twice Sold Tales boasts a MASSIVE collection of used, collectible, and rare books across all subjects, genres, and areas of study. While we have only frequented the Capitol Hill located (address posted), they also have a second location in Ballard. But two locations and millions of books are not all they have- they also have CATS! The Capitol Hill location has anywhere from 4-6 live-in cats at a time that roam and snooze around the bookstore and are always good for a pet or cuddle! With a constantly revolving, gargantuan inventory, you're sure to find whatever books you may have on your wish list- and make a furry friend along the way!
