While in Houston, Katie served as a counselor, camp director, and board member of the Periwinkle Foundation. These were formative experiences for Katie and the campers, and camp memories were one of the earliest ways Katie and Elliott bonded! The Periwinkle Foundation develops and provides programs that positively change the lives of children, young adults and families who are challenged by cancer and other life-threatening illnesses and are cared for at Texas Children’s Hospital. Periwinkle’s mission is realized through a continuum of camps, arts, and survivor programs which accompany a child and their family from diagnosis, through treatment, and into remission.

Elliott and his dad, John, are avid fans of Seattle's live music scene. Before the pandemic, it was normal to see at least a show a month. KEXP is a local radio station that spotlights a wide range of music that turned Elliott and John onto many of the live shows that they attend. Donations to KEXP are tax-deductible.
