Flight
The easiest way to get to Pico is a flight from Lisbon or from Ponta Delgada, a city on São Miguel, another island in the Azores. Either way, you'll likely need to buy a round trip ticket to and from Lisbon and then buy separate tickets for your travel to and around the islands. If you're planning to adventure on São Miguel before the wedding festivities start, you'll be able to get a direct flight from Lisbon to Ponta Delgada any day at virtually any time. There are direct flights from Ponta Delgada to Pico at 8am or 4pm depending on the day. There aren't direct flights between Ponta Delgada and Pico on Saturdays. If you're flying to Lisbon just before wedding festivities start and coming straight to Pico from there, you'll have to strategize a little more. You'll likely need to buy a round trip ticket to Lisbon and then a separate ticket for your trip to and from Pico. There are only direct flights between Lisbon and Pico on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Flights from Lisbon to Pico leave at 7:45am and flights from Pico to Lisbon usually leave at 5:30 or 6:30pm. Because of the timing, you'll need a flight that gets you to Lisbon on Sunday, will spend Sunday night in Lisbon, and then take the Monday morning flight to Pico to get settled in before wedding festivities commence on Tuesday afternoon. If you want to stop by São Miguel after the wedding, there are direct flights from Pico to Ponta Delgada in the evening on Thursdays and in the morning on Fridays. We realize this explanation reads like a logic puzzle. The flights are absolutely the most complicated part of this adventure and we're happy to look over your options with you to make this as easy as possible!
Rental Car
The locations of all of the wedding festivities are within walking distance of each other so once you get to where you'll be staying, you won't need a car to get around. It's pretty easy to get a taxi from the Pico airport--we can even give you the Whatsapp number of the very lovely taxi driver from our first visit! If you want to see any of the other sites on Pico, though, it's best to rent a car. It's actually remarkably cheap to do so--especially if you can drive a stick shift. We'll be renting a car so we can go on adventures throughout the week and would be happy to help you book one too if you'd like to go that route!
