Hotel
It is recommended to stay here if rooms are available as this is where the majority of our guests from out of town will be and where we'll be coordinating departures for Saturday. To book a room as part of our wedding party, booking must be placed directly by the guests by phone or email info@theschumacher.co.il. Please note your guests to mention that it's for Kate & Gal's wedding. The block is from May 27-30, 2022 and the rate is 730NIS for a Superior Room. Rates are per double occupancy, per night on a Room Only basis and include VAT (non-Israeli citizens will not pay 17% VAT). To guarantee a booking credit card details must be provided.
Travel Note
If you are planning on taking the train upon your arrival at TLV, please note there is NO service for Shabbat from Friday at sundown to Saturday at sundown. If you land after ~4pm at Tel Aviv airport, you will need to either take a cab (~$200-300) or rent a car to travel to Haifa prior to Saturday evening. Rail.co.il is the website for the train where you can look up schedules and times. Tickets can be purchased at kiosks at the station or at the entrance to the train as soon as you leave Ben-Gurion airport. If you're going to Haifa, you want the side of the tracks where the trains go to Nahariyya. All stations in Tel Aviv are express and will have direct trains to Haifa Center - HaShmona, which is where you should get off for Hotel Schumacher.
Travel Note
Uber does not work in Israel but there is an alternative app you can download called "Gett." Gett is similar to Uber but works with local taxi drivers. You can put pick-up and drop-off destinations in English and pay in-app. There is no need to tip out-of-app when using Gett. Local taxis will also be parked at most major train stations and drivers will typically be able to understand major attractions and hotels in English but beyond that, English comprehension may be limited.
Travel Note
All phone repair shops (very numerous) sell local SIM cards which provided unlimited talk/text and ~30 GBs of data for less than $30/month. It is easy to buy and swap out for your American SIM card for ease of communication and getting around. Free WiFi is NOT as common in Israel so we recommend someone in your group has cell service and a data plan.
Rental Car
While cars can be rented from any of the major American providers (National, Hertz, etc) directly at Ben-Gurion airport, it is typically cheaper to rent and pick up from a non-airport location. Please note that this will require either taking a train or cab from the airport to the car rental location. Listed above is the Haifa location which can be easily reached by taking the train from the airport to HaMifratz Central Station in Haifa and then walking to Sixt pick-up location (~5-10 minute walk).
