Our Story

First came snowboard lessons, next came love

Katelyn and Fred’s story began at Michigan Technological University, thanks to a snowboarding class that was supposed to teach Katelyn how to snowboard… but instead taught both of them that sometimes the best things in life can happen by chance. While Fred was not smart enough to ride the lift up with Katelyn during class, their paths eventually crossed again nearly a year later over coffee in the spring of 2021, where Katelyn felt it appropriate to divulge the not so PG details of her accidental Sturgis trip from the previous summer. From there Katelyn and Fred established the early foundations of their relationship. Katelyn revived the party in Fred with 70’s themed barrels, wing Wednesdays at the DT, “Shitty Shot Monday” with Madi at Nutini's, and capping off late nights at the Dog. While Fred showed Katelyn his favorite Keweenaw nature getaways and beaches. After graduation, their relationship continued to gain speed, eventually leading them west to Colorado. From the moment they arrived, they fully embraced the adventure-filled lifestyle that defines them today. Whether they’re training for Ironman's, summiting 14ers, fly fishing remote rivers, hunting the Rockies or the Midwest, cramming their lives into Fred’s truck for another camp trip, and sometimes all of the above in one excursion. Both Fred and Katelyn have learned that their best memories are made when they’re getting out of their comfort zone together. Of course, no adventure comes without a little chaos—especially when navigation is involved. Katelyn famously cannot tell the difference between left and right, which has made road trips, trail navigation, and ski days a constant exercise in trust and teamwork. (Fred has learned to keep an eye on Katelyn's phone while she navigates.) Somehow, they always make it to their destination… eventually. When they’re not chasing outdoor challenges, you can find them in the kitchen cooking and baking, perfecting their coffee-making skills, taking fireball shooters from ski lifts, looking for the next race, or planning the next trip. With similar backgrounds in Civil Engineering and Construction Management, they both understand early mornings, long days, and the satisfaction of seeing something built from the ground up. Having shared work hardships has only strengthened their bond, giving them a deep appreciation for each other’s grit, resilience, and work ethic. What started as a college snowboarding class has grown into a life full of laughter, adventure, and mutual support. Through every challenge, detour, and wrong turn (literally), Katelyn and Fred have built a partnership rooted in love, humor, and a shared excitement for whatever comes next—and they’re so excited to celebrate it with you.
