FAQs

Some answers to common questions we've got. Reach out if there's something else you're curious about!
Question

I hear Kat is wearing a "huipil" for the wedding. What is that?

Answer

Correct! The Guatemalan "huipil" (hwee-PEEL) is a traditional, square-cut blouse that is hand-woven and heavily decorated with embroidered designs. The one Kat will be wearing was purchased by her grandfather for her mother in Guatemala. (If you didn't know, Kat's maternal grandfather was an ambassador for the government and for a time lived in Guatemala with his family, including Kat's mom.) Ann wore the huipil on her wedding day, and Kat will be wearing it for the ceremony over her more traditionally American-style wedding dress and will remove it afterwards.

Question

Is anyone changing their last name?

Answer

Nope! Kat is staying a Sullivan and Ben is staying a Winston. No plans to hyphenate.

Question

I know Kat is a vegan. Are you going to feed us kale and show us videos of bunnies crying?

Answer

Busted! There will be both vegan and vegetarian options served, so no meat. But no crying bunnies, we promise! Unless it's tears of joy.

Question

I grew up calling the bride "Katherine". Does her usage of a trendy nickname signify the complete denial and desecration of all memories that defined our most vulnerable and formative years together?

Answer

Yup.

Question

Well, clearly you both have a robust sense of humor. Anything else we should be prepared for?

Answer

There's a strong likelihood that Kat and Ben's vows will be feature some choice puns.
