We have a number of guests who are also visiting India for the first time so we can help you coordinate if you want to also see other attractions (i.e., seeing the Taj) / have additional questions!

Couple of things before we get into details: Depending on when you’re planning to arrive in Delhi - it might be easier to order some items to bring with you vs. shop once you’ve arrived - we’re put some online resources below that Fei’s used for women’s wear Dress for the weather - Delhi in December is warm during the day (think 70s F) but can drop to be very cold in the evenings (40s F). Don’t stress! We’re sharing a lot of details with you guys so that you feel ready but you should feel free to come dressed in whatever you’re most comfortable in! At the end of the day, we’re just excited to celebrate with you all!
Womenswear: Here are the general types of womenswear clothes for Indian weddings: Saree: this is the classic wrapped fabric dress. Out of all of the options, this is definitely the most classic but also the least comfortable to walk around in since it’s a very long piece of fabric that’s pleated draped. However, there are also “stitched” saree options or “concept” saree options on a lot of sites that can give you this look but you don’t have to worry about pleats coming undone, etc. Tip: if you do end up choosing to wear a saree, also look into buying a separate petticoat (amazon has lots of options) Lengha: this is the most popular silhouette at weddings for the more dressed up events. It’s effectively a crop top with a floor length skirt. You can mix and match tops with skirts or buy it as a set! There’s also different levels of formal here, with some sets that are much more voluminous vs. others (should be reflected in pricing) Shahara: it’s a long tunic over palazzo pants (gives an illusion of a skirt but gives more movement). I love this option for a bit more coverage but still very comfortable Kurta Sets: this is a long tunic over pants, usually sold as a set - this can range in casual to very formal based on the amount of embellishments Anarkali: this is a full length dress What we’d recommend for each event: Mehendi / Sangeet: this is a more fun / colorful event so I would recommend a shahara or lengha for this event. You can also do a stitched / concept saree for this event Haldi: very very casual kurta set is ideal for this - you’re going to be applying turmeric paste on us and may get it on yourself so try to wear something that’s haldi color / you don’t care a lot about Wedding: lengha or saree are most popular for this; you can also wear a more formal kurta set! You can also opt to wear western blacktie formal for this event if you’d like!
Menswear: Here are the general types of menswear clothes for Indian weddings: Kurta: most casual of the 3. It’s a long collarless shirt, over pants, sometimes paired with a scarf (optional). You’ll also hear it referenced as “kurta pajamas” - that just means the set of both shirt and pants. This can be a standalone but also as a layer under a Bandi or Bandghala Bandi: it’s a vest that you wear on top of a kurta. These are great for daytime events where you want to dress it up a little more Bandghala: this is a long sleeve jacket with a small stiff collar - closets equivalent to a suit jacket. It’s one of the more formal options Sherwani: this long jacket is the most formal - equivalent to a tux What we’d recommend for each event: Mehendi / Sangeet: Haldi: very very casual kurta set is ideal for this - you’re going to be applying turmeric paste on us and may get it on yourself so try to wear something that’s haldi color / you don’t care a lot about Wedding: Bandghala or sherwani - you can also opt to wear a western suit for this event
Amazon (both, $-$$): there are a surprising number of options especially for basics / base layers. Also a great place for costume jewelry to dress up any options Etsy (both, $-$$): there are a bunch of good options here - just be sure to read reviews on quality, I find it to be a bit hit or miss Indya (women, $-$$): they have great options for pre-stitched sarees and lighter lenghas, perfect for the haldi - you can also dress these up with some big earrings / necklaces for the mehendi / wedding Kalki (both, $$$-$$$$): nice online option - I bought a few things here for a recent wedding and got a ton of compliments - there’s a range in pricing here and take a look at timelines (they have a good assortment of ready to ship that arrives in ~ a week) Kynah (both, $$$$-$$$$): check timelines, a lot of their pieces require 6+ weeks - they’re based in LA and have a showroom if you’re in the area / want to check stuff out in person Pernia’s Pop Up (both, $$-$$$$): check timelines, a lot of their pieces require 4+ weeks Ogaan (both, $$-$$$$): check timelines, a lot of their pieces require 4+ weeks Philocaly (menswear only, $$-$$$): this is where Kartik has gotten all of his clothes for every wedding - it’s also his cousin’s (in-laws) place. If you’re interested in getting some suits made (mens and women’s), this is where we’d recommend as well. Check out what they have and you can reach out to Shrey on whatsapp +91 99998 90169. Please let him know we sent you! FlybyRobe (both, $-$$$): this is a great option if you want to rent something (I think it makes the most sense for the wedding) Buy 2nd hand (mostly womens, $-$$$): there’s a few places that you can buy pre-used outfits like SuitSuit App and Loved Lengha - definitely worth checking out but a little more challenging to figure out sizing, condition, etc. especially if this is your first time attending an Indian wedding
Shopping in India: Fab India: multiple locations around delhi - this is a great spot to get something casual for the haldi / picking up base layers Khan market: fun brands here in small boutiques, some things that are ready to wear Chandi Chowk: this is a market in Old Delhi - we’ll likely do a group trip here on the 27th if you’re interested in joining - there are great places to pick up a saree or a kurta set but most places are cash only and you should definitely negotiate Pernia’s Pop Up / Ogaan - both of these retailers have a few locations around Delhi and you can try on styles in person - some pieces will require lead time to get made Shahpur Jat: this is a fashion district with newer designers to shop from - some places may require longer lead time / won’t always sell their samples so this may be more challenging
