Scott and Karissa spent years living in the same town, attending the same university, and even taking classes in the same Departments, and yet somehow never crossed paths. That was until one summer weekend in 2020 when Karissa lost a bet to some friends at a cabin weekend, a Tinder profile was created, and Alan and Kristina stumbled upon Scott's profile. While Karissa was able to hear the delighted commentary about his dad jokes, clear love for travel, and science background that aligned with hers, it wasn't until a few days later that she was able to get to know Scott for herself. Happily ever after didn't come immediately though. On the day of the planned first date, Karissa got her dream job offer, but it would require her to move away from Morgantown, WV (and Scott) to Baltimore, MD. She accepted the job and nearly canceled the date but didn't want to be rude so decided it wouldn't hurt to go on just one date. That one date led to another and another. Nine months later, Karissa threw another potential wrench in the relationship when she decided to take a three-month cross-country road trip to visit several National Parks with her dog, Brody. What they didn't realize until later was that she hit Scott with the ultimate relationship ultimatum question: "Would you care to join me?" Scott almost immediately agreed to spend the month before grad school visiting 10 National Parks along the West Coast, including a quick trip up to Alaska. Looking back on that trip, Scott and Karissa both agree that the time they spent together problem solving and exploring across the country was when they realized "this is the one". After a year and a half of living in different states and nearly three years into the relationship, Scott and Karissa flew to Singapore to visit Scott's brother. On one of the last days of the trip, with fresh injuries from their recent motorbike crash on the streets of Bali, Scott led Karissa on a hike to one of the tallest waterfalls in Indonesia and popped the question. She immediately replied "are you sure?" before enthusiastically agreeing to spend their lives together. Since then, Scott joined Karissa and Brody at a cozy row house in downtown Baltimore where they've gotten to know and love each other even further as roommates and fiancés and can't wait for what the rest of their life brings.
