The better question is, why not?? We wanted to create an opportunity to step away from our busy lives and experience stunning turquoise views, bright sunshine and the chance to soak in a new culture. The seafood will be fresh, wine will be plentiful, and the beauty of the Algarve region speaks for itself!
Dress Code: think elevated cliffside formal, coastal chic. The White Lotus. We want people to have an excuse to wear something colorful, fun (avoiding whites/blacks) while looking classic & polished. Cocktail Casual. Think: a less formal version of the wedding dress code. Men may wear shorts, with button downs or a nicer polo/collared shirt. For women, feel free to wear skirts, dresses, a two piece set, whatever puts you in the party mood!
-It may be required to fill out a SEF “Serviço De Estrangeiros E Fronteiras” form/link (Borders Service) with your passport number (for identification) prior to your hotel/ Airbnb stay. This is not abnormal for Portugal as they require identification for any foreigner. Every place we stayed asked us for our passports and returned them immediately. -While Portuguese and Spanish share similarities, it’s best to avoid using Spanish when speaking with locals, as it can be considered impolite. Many people in Portugal do speak English, but learning a few basic Portuguese phrases is always appreciated and shows respect for the culture! -It is not necessary to tip in Portugal (and not expected), but you can do so for great service. ~10-15% of the total is a nice gesture -When finished dining, you may have to ask for the bill as eating out can be seen as an “experience” and servers may not wish to rush you out of the restaurant. Upon paying, if you wish to tip, please tell the server the final amount you wish to charge the credit card. Example: if you paid 50€ for the meal and wish to tip 10%, state “please charge a total of 55€” and they will print for your signature.

Before using any apps, make sure of your cell carrier’s data coverage while abroad. It may be wise to sign up for international data for this trip! Usable: -Uber: We used this every day during our trip this fall. No need to change anything in the app, as it will adjust automatically. Many driver speak basic English -Bolt: Offers similar services to Uber. -"Free Now": Allows booking licensed taxis through the app, with options for standard rides, larger vehicles, premium services Not Usable: -Lyft **For taxis, please ask to "set the meter" once the ride has begun **Tipping is not mandatory, but rounding up the fare or leaving a small tip is appreciated for good service **It's advisable to have more than one rideshare app installed as availability can vary depending on season, location, time of day. **Please keep your guard up, not recommended to travel alone late at night in rideshares
