Things To Do

We love spending time in Morganton; here is a list of some favorites! Please keep in mind that the area is still recovering following Hurricane Helene, so be sure to check these locations have reopened before visiting.

South Mountains State Park Visitors Center

3001 South Mountain Park, Connelly Springs, NC 28612

There are a lot of great trails, campsites, and picnic areas at the park. The trails lead to vistas of the blue ridges, mossy streams, and High Shoals Falls. Please keep in mind that parts of the park are still closed due to damage from Hurricane Helene.

Fonta Flora County Park and Connector Trailhead

126 North Carolina 126, Morganton, NC 28655

This is a rambling and relatively flat trail through the woods. You get beautiful views of a lake and Linville Gorge.

Canal Coffee Company

853 North Green Street, Morganton, NC 28655

This is a drive-thru coffee shop. We like this local chain's iced coffee with flavored cold foam and spinach and feta stuffed pretzels.

Valdese Lakeside Park

1149 Lake Rhodhiss Drive Northeast, Valdese, NC 28690

This was a close second for our welcome picnic and is connected by trails to McGalliard Falls Park. It includes trails around the lake and a dog park, as well as picnic areas.

For all the days along the way
