Before heading out west, we highly recommend watching this recently released documentary about the founding and creation of Crested Butte. The town has a rich, wild history with deep historical and environmental significance. We learned so much from it ourselves and think it will truly enrich your visit and deepen your appreciation for this special place.
Crested Butte is the last town in Paradise Valley, totally surrounded by mountains. It's not strange to see someone repping their "Land Trust" tee or tote around town as they have done incredible work conserving the that makes Crested Butte so beautiful. Check out the open lands paths on the East side of town. The paths are paved, even, and relatively flat.
