We love Crested Butte! We have a tradition of spending July 4th in Crested Butte. During our first visit, we fell in love with the town, beautiful wildflowers, and incredible views. We hope you are able to join our annual trip in 2023! We think you might fall in love with the town too.
Any of these would work well! A few things to know: Crested Butte is where you will find the downtown, shopping, and majority of restaurants. Our ceremony will be held at a church in town. Lodging is limited and more expensive in the town of Crested Butte. Mt. Crested Butte is the base of the mountain and where you will find the chairlift. Our reception venue is on Mt. Crested Butte. We recommend lodging here if possible, as it will be convenient for shuttle access to and from the reception. There are many lodging options, including Airbnbs and hotels here. There are some food options as well, though you may prefer to head into town. For reference, Mt. Crested Butte is a 10 minute drive from downtown Crested Butte. Gunnison is the "bigger town" and where you will find the closest Walmart! Gunnison boasts a cute downtown with the option of numerous chain hotels. The Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport is located near the town of Gunnison as well. Gunnison is a scenic 35 minute drive from downtown Crested Butte.
Not unless you have a helicopter! While Aspen and Crested Butte look close in proximity on a map (20 miles as the crow flies), the drive is over 100 miles and would take over 3 hours.
The sooner the better! You will have the most lodging options if you look 12 months in advance. This is when hotels and Airbnbs start booking for July 2023. We recommend booking lodging at least 6-9 months in advance, or even further out if you have specific requirements. July is one of the most popular times to visit Crested Butte and lodging close to town becomes limited if you book last minute.
Drink lots of water and keep the sunscreen nearby! The town of Crested Butte sits at 8,909 feet. The reception venue is around 11,000 feet. If you are concerned about the altitude, we recommend arriving to Colorado a few days before the wedding to acclimate.
You bet!
The ceremony and reception will be semi-formal attire (suits and dresses). The wedding ceremony will be in the church. The reception will be on a mountain in a tent. The tent has a concrete floor, but there is some gravel around the venue. We would recommend wedges, flats, or chunky heels. Nights in the mountains can be cold, so you may want a jacket!
Transportation will be provided to and from the reception. You will park at the gravel lot near the Grand Lodge and take a shuttle from there. We will send out an email a few weeks before the wedding with a detailed map.
Sunny and dry, with occasional and brief afternoon rain showers. The average daily high is 71 degrees and low is 43 degrees. We usually hike in shorts and t-shirts during the day, or a light jacket at higher elevations. We bring extra layers when around town at night.
We plan to arrive July 2nd and spend the week leading up to our wedding enjoying time with you! Check out the schedule for events during the week.
