How We Met

Kaleb and Emily grew up going to the same elementary, middle, and high school. Our paths crossed many times as our dads worked at the same company, our moms volunteered together through the elementary PTO, and our brothers (Tyler and Josh) wrestled on the same team. While our childhoods were intertwined, this is not where the story begins... Emily went off to college at Oklahoma State and Kaleb to Nebraska. During the summer of 2016, Oklahoma State was in the College World Series in Omaha. Emily decided to take a spur of the moment road trip (very out of character for Emily) from Colorado to Omaha to see her team play. Later that weekend, Emily spotted Kaleb across a bar, but he and his friends were quickly leaving. Emily proceeded to follow him out (also very out of character for Emily) and mustered up the courage to ask if he remembered her. We chatted for several hours that night, but this is also not where the story begins... Fast forward to March of 2018 and Kaleb was taking a ski trip to Colorado. He decided to stop by Fort Collins and requested that Emily show him the best spots around town. And this is where the story finally begins! Since then, we have cherished our time together hiking throughout Colorado, spending time with family and friends, and traveling throughout the US and abroad. After starting the relationship long distance, Kaleb has since moved to Colorado Springs. Currently, Kaleb works as a software engineer and Emily as a pediatric occupational therapist. We are looking forward to the next chapter of our story and we cannot wait to celebrate in Crested Butte with you!

How He Proposed

Kaleb and Emily had an annual tradition of taking a road trip to Aspen, Colorado to see the fall colors. The first trip was in 2018, and each year we have gone back to the same spots while living it up Aspen style. During the trip in September 2021, Kaleb invited his friends Blake and Morgan along, who were recently engaged. Emily thought this might change the romantic weekend getaway that was planned, but Kaleb convinced her that Blake and Morgan were eager to see Aspen in the fall and get some good photos. After a scenic drive to Aspen, our first destination was the Maroon Bells, one of the best places to see fall colors and capture the perfect photo of the mountains reflected onto the lake. We meandered through the aspen grove, taking in the breathtaking scenery and mountain views. As the sun was setting, we arrived back at the lake, now an ideal time for capturing the perfect photo. Emily started taking photos of Blake and Morgan, focusing on the perfect angle and background. Meanwhile, Kaleb was carefully digging into his backpack to get the ring. Blake and Morgan then offered to take pictures of us, and to Emily's surprise, Kaleb got down on one knee and proposed! The moment was perfectly captured with the fall colors and the mountain reflected onto the lake in the background. The proposal was followed by a champagne toast and extended photo session. Kaleb and Emily then ventured back into Aspen for a fancy and romantic celebration after all!
