Ryan and Kailey were both in the middle of their senior baseball and junior softball seasons at Southeastern Louisiana University. The two of them were fully focused on their relationships with the Lord, their family, their friends, their sports and their school. Neither Ryan or Kailey were looking for a relationship, they had both completely surrendered that aspect of their lives to their Heavenly Father. On March 27, 2025 Kailey had a double-header for softball at 4:00 and 6:00. Kailey’s teammate Alli Brunson had invited her friend from class, Ryan Brome, to the softball game to hangout while she charted pitches from the backstop. Ryan ended up coming to the 6:00 game and Alli told Ryan that she knew “the perfect girl for him”. She told him to guess who it was. When Kailey walked up to bat, her walk up song “What a Beautiful Name” by Hillsong worship came on the speakers. When Ryan heard this and saw her picture on the screen, he asked Alli “Is this the girl?”. It turns out it was. The next morning, Alli walked into the locker room for the final game of the lady Lion’s three-game series against Texas A&M - Corpus Christi. Alli told Kailey that “she had the perfect guy for her”. She went on to say that he played baseball and Kailey was not super interested at that point. Then Alli added that this guy loved Jesus and Kailey became a little more interested. She gave Alli permission to give Ryan her number so she did. Kailey checked her phone after their game and Ryan had texted her, introducing himself. The two of them texted that whole weekend about everything. They stayed up until 2 in the morning every night just texting each other. Sunday night after Ryan and his baseball team got back from their away conference series, he was texting Kailey like he had been the past 2 or 3 days. They were talking about standards and what they wanted in a partner. Everything Ryan was saying was exactly what Kailey had prayed for. Everything Kailey was saying was exactly what Ryan had prayed for. Ryan was at the baseball field letting his dog Sophie run and play and he invited Kailey to come join. So she did. Her friend Cydnee was freaked out, thinking Kailey had lost her mind meeting a stranger on a baseball field at night by herself. So, like a good friend would do, Cydnee followed Kailey and circled the field about 10 times to make sure her friend wasn’t meeting a murderer or something. Ryan and Kailey met for the first time on the baseball field and talked about Jesus and everything He had done in their lives. They talked about softball and baseball and the things that led them to Southeastern. Ryan knew after that night that he would marry Kailey. The two of them were inseparable after that. They went on their first date to church and then Mariner’s Inn in downtown Hammond. The rest was history!
