The Bay Area is famous for its microclimates- you can enjoy clear skies and mild temperatures the same day you experience whipping winds and clammy fog, often just a few short miles apart. Even in the summer, the West side of the city (Golden Gate Bridge side) tends to be windier, cooler and foggier compared to the East side (Bay Bridge side).
As a general rule, bring a jacket (e.g. windbreaker) with you since will often be cooler than you think. Layers are helpful. Good walking shoes are very important, especially for the hills!
Driving is an option, but parking in general is limited in the city. Street spots are often very tight and require parallel parking. Parking garages are available in most high-traffic areas. Most people who live in SF proper take public transit (e.g. MUNI, BART), bike, and walk. Because SF has a high car-related theft rate (e.g. smash-and-grab), it's really important that you never leave anything in your cars (day or night) no matter where it's parked.
San Francisco is a beautiful and safe place to visit, but it is still a big city. Don’t leave any valuables in your car. Text us if you have any questions about a certain neighborhood.
There are endless options for wine tasting in both Napa and Sonoma Valley, which are approximately 1 hour by car from SF. Wineries typically open 10/11am and close by 5pm. Some are family and pet friendly. Also many wineries do required reservations, so please check before you go.
