A typical Sicilian market, you'll find a man with a megaphone selling fish harvested from the ocean that morning, fresh oysters, photogenic piles of fruits and vegetables, bins of olives and sundried tomatoes, jars of homemade pestos and pastes, and more.
Along the island's southern tip, Ortigia's 13th-century castle is a wonderful piece of history, where you can also gaze out over the water. You'll see archaeological objects from the site, including Norman-era ceramics and more.
This is a 5th century BC Greek Theater – the largest in Sicily. The spectacular archeological site is walking distance from Ortigia, but on the Siracusa side (the mainland).
