Zach and Julia met in eighth grade after Julia's family moved back to Midland, Michigan. Julia reconnected with previous friends from Midland, leading to her and Zach becoming friends through mutual friend groups. An awkward eighth-grade "relationship" followed by years in the friend zone, they became best friends through high school. In fact, junior year of high school Julia and Zach made a marriage pact, like in How I Met Your Mother, stating that if they weren't both married by 40 that they would give it a go. A bit prematurely, they decided to try dating after their freshman year of college and the rest is history!

Zach proposed to Julia on spring break with Julia's parents in Utah on a beautiful hike. After carrying the ring to several national parks and testing Julia's fear of heights, he popped the question in a gorgeous canyon as Julia's dad snapped pictures and Julia's mom collected the perfect engagement rock!
