Fly Fishing
For licenses, flies, rentals, and beta, Rocky Mountain Anglers in Boulder or Kirks in Estes Park. You're welcome to borrow our rods and gear. Come fish our back yard or down at the bridge, or head out to RMNP, Estes Park, Sawhill Ponds, Indian Peaks...
Hall Ranch Trailhead - Bitterbrush
Beautiful hiking! You can also access trails via the Antelope Trailhead, which is on Apple Valley Road.
LaVern M. Johnson Park
Probably the best park for children. Several playgrounds, river access, great spots to hang a hammock, hiking trails, picnic areas, clean bathrooms.
MainStage Brewing
Only but still best pizza in town, often live music, outdoor seating, great little brewery.
Marigold Lyons
The best thing to happen to Lyons! You might want to get a reservation, just to be safe. Also great to go sit at the bar and get small plates. Rotating seasonal menu inspired by Northern Italy and Southern France. So good, a bit of a splurge.
Moxie Bread Co. - Lyons
Excellent sourdough bread, pastries, and coffee. Live music on Sunday mornings-midday. There's a little play area for children outside. You can also get sandwiches and picnic supplies to go, natural wine, local beer, salads, and lasagna take n bake.
Rocky Mountain National Park
If you haven't been, you really should go, even just to drive around and take in the views. We'd recommend Bear Lake and Trail Ridge Road.
St Vrain Market, Deli & Bakery
The only market in town. A little on the pricy side but so convenient for snacks, a classic deli sandwich, or if you want to pick up something to cook at your Airbnb.
Boulder
The "big city" is about 25 minutes south of Lyons. - Hiking: Chautauqua (classic Flatirons, lots of options), Sanitas (challenging, great views), Boulder Valley Ranch (mellow loop, beautiful views), Anne U. White Trail (shaded), Sawhill Ponds (mellow, flat walking trails, beautiful views) - Grocery stores: Lucky's Market, Natural Grocers, Ideal Market, and Whole Foods - Coffee: Boxcar (great pastries and flat white), Beleza, the Trident (books, cafe, excellent tea selection), Dry Storage (grain-focused pastries and bread) - Breweries: Mountain Sun (cash only), Avery, Wild Provisions, Twisted Pine, Sanitas - Shopping: Cedar + Hyde, Rebecca's Herbal Apothecary, Common Threads, Apocalypse, Peppercorn, Boulder Book Store, Boulder Sports Recycler, Two Hands Paperie - Eating Out: Dedalus, Dushanbe Teahouse, Wonder, Pizzeria Alberico, Mountain Sun, Zoe Ma Ma, AOI, Bramble & Hare, Illegal Pete's, Santo, Leaf (vegetarian), Backcountry Pizza & Taphouse (dive bar with the **best** tap selection)
For Children
- Junkyard Social Club: Fun social venue with open-ended play areas, coffee, and gathering space. Great for adventurous kiddos who like to climb, jump, & explore. - Bike rentals at University Bikes: You can rent kids and adult bikes here, as well as e-bikes and burleys for towing kids. Check out biking at the Valmont Bike Park. We do not recommend biking on the Boulder Creek Bike Path. - Parks: North Boulder Park, Foothills Community Park, Columbine Park, Salberg Center & Park. We do not recommend the parks along the Boulder Creek Bike Path or the park at the library. - Kid-friendly hikes: Wonderland Lake, base trails at Chautauqua, Flatirons Vista Trail, Sawhill Ponds - ABC Climbing: This is a kids climbing gym for children 2.5 yo and up. Some hours are also open to adults to join. - CATS Gymnastics: They have different open gym times for children crawling to 5 yo when children can open play. Coaches supervise. - North Boulder Rec Center: get a day pass to use the indoor pool & slide
