Question

What's the Difference Between The Mountain Village & Town?

Answer

The town of Telluride and the Mountain Village are two different areas. The two towns are connected by a free gondola system that runs from 7am – 12 midnight daily, with extended hours until 2am on Friday & Saturday nights. The gondola allows guests visiting Telluride to experience the best of both worlds! Telluride is a historic mining town tucked in a majestic box canyon at 8,750 feet. Surrounded by 14,000 foot peaks, cascading waterfalls, Elk filled meadows and thriving Aspen groves, there’s no denying that Telluride’s natural beauty is absolutely breathtaking. If you love staying in a place with an authentic, historic atmosphere and plenty of charm, then the town of Telluride is right for you! The Mountain Village, situated at 9,450 feet elevation, offers more of a resort town atmosphere. Surrounded by the Telluride Ski Resort & Golf Club, the Mountain Village is a purpose built, European style pedestrian village with easy access to our wedding weekend activities and lodging.

Question

Where Can I Access the Gondola?

Answer

The gondola has three primary stations where you can board and unload: Station Telluride (Oak Street) – access in Telluride. Station St. Sophia (mid-mountain stop) – access to Allred’s Restaurant & Bar, The Ridge Club and ski resort trails and runs. Station Mountain Village – access in Mountain Village. Just across from Station Mountain Village, a shorter gondola stretch connects to Station Village Parking, where the free parking garage, Town Hall and the Mountain Market are located.

Question

Do I Need a Car to Get Around?

Once you arrive in Telluride, a car is not needed to get around town or for any of the wedding weekend activities. The town of Telluride and the Mountain Village are accessible by walking and the free gondola system. Unfortunately, ridesharing services like Uber and Lyft do not exist in Telluride. Question

What are the Altitude Concerns of Traveling to Telluride?

Answer

While visiting Telluride you will experience elevation ranging from 8,750 - 14,000+ feet. Although the views may be breathtaking, the high altitude can literally take your breath away! There is 30% less oxygen in the air in Telluride than at sea level. Unfortunately, the drastic change in climate can cause a variety of unpleasant symptoms. Altitude sickness can affect those of all ages and health conditions. Luckily, there are a few tips and tricks to help acclimate to the altitude and prevent any issues. 1) Stay hydrated! Telluride's dry air can cause dehydration, so it's important to drink lots of water during travel and stay hydrated once you land. 2) Take Aspirin before arrival and during the first half of your stay. Studies have shown that Aspirin can reduce the severity of headaches in high altitude. Please consult a doctor for the appropriate dosage. 3) Take it easy on your first day in Telluride. Physical exertion can affect your response to the altitude. It's best to ease into the weekend activities! 4) Remember that 1 drink in Telluride = 2 drinks at sea level. A little goes a long way! 5) Consult a doctor if you have serious concerns. A medical professional will provide the best advice and guidance for each individual. A prescription for Diamox can be discussed with your doctor to prevent altitude sickness. If you are experiencing any symptoms, please call the Telluride Medical Center (970-728-3848).
