How We Met

Actually, we don't remember...

Jamie and Josh met at KTBS-TV in Shreveport, Louisiana, where they worked as an investigative reporter/photographer team. Their first interaction was via email: Jamie asked Josh for help editing video, and he replied with a Rocky joke. However, neither can remember actually meeting in person.

In Josh's words...

We don't remember meeting. That's pretty funny seeing as though it was quite an important moment in our lives. I was working as a photographer at a news station in Shreveport, LA and I remember hearing that we hired a new investigative reporter. I was probably editing and suddenly got an urgent request to go with the new reporter to cover a tragic story in Texas and bumped into her as I was grabbing camera gear and hustling to the station vehicle. News is chaos. But in that chaos, love began. On the way to the assignment, this new reporter seemed a bit serious and focused on the task at hand. On the way back from that assignment, she opened up a bit as we talked Blink-182 and emo pop punk. We laughed and got to know each other a little. After a couple months of working news assignments together and very subtle flirting, this beautiful lady dipped her head into my editing booth at the news station and asked me to go to dinner with her. I was honestly stunned. This funny, intelligent, passionate woman wanted to spend time with me...alone. The casual dinner (accidentally) turned into a date. Two weeks later we fell in love while dancing to a Zydeco band at a crawfish festival. Louisiana, baby. We started hanging out almost every day. She introduced me to the most majestic animal I've ever encountered, our dear Pippa. With every dinner date, hiking trip, Better Call Saul/Bojack Horseman session, standup comedy show, random trip to a flea market or rose garden...our bond grew. It's been a little over four years now. We live together in another state. I still get just as excited to see her every day as I did waiting for her at the restaurant on our (accidental) first date. The way she loves me is unbelievable. I am a lucky man.

In Jamie's words...

The first conversation I can remember with Josh was when we went to shoot a story in March, 2018. It was in east Texas, so we spent some time in the car. We connected over our favorite music from the 2000's, and our (unhealthy?) tendency to make people laugh until they like us. I was struck by Josh’s warm and easygoing personality. I thought to myself, "This guy gets me. I think we could become great friends!" We accidentally started dating three months later. Dating a coworker is risky, and can be very messy. But our connection always felt so natural, like we'd known each other for a long time. In May, I asked Josh to grab a drink with me after work. I didn't know that this would turn into our first date. We fell in love ten days later. As we would eventually discover, love struck us at the same moment: Dancing to Zydeco music at the Mudbug Madness crawfish festival. (Tell me you’re in Louisiana without saying you’re in Louisiana.) Looking back, I think our admiration for one another made us better as a team at work, even though we dated secretly our first year together. In the meantime, we had a blast going on hikes, binge watching Better Call Saul, and playing pub trivia. Josh also encouraged me to perform more standup comedy. I'll never forget how enthusiastic he was to support me. Writing jokes and being creative together are some of my favorite memories. I’d never felt so loved and seen. That hasn’t changed, even four years later.
