Josh and I met in our church's Thursday night Bible study. I would only pop by when I wasn't working a closing shift at Nordstrom, but as luck would have it, I was able to make it on Josh's first Thursday night with our small group. Josh immediately fit in with our small group, and eventually came to be a host to our four small groups and help co-lead ours over the next few months. I later changed jobs and began working 8-5, so I was able to consistently attend our small group and continue getting to know Josh and our "Small Group With the Best Snacks". I always knew him as the really nice guy who gives a lot of high fives.
Due to COVID, we have two parts (or rather two attempts) to our proposal story. Attempt#1: I wanted to try surprise Aimee as much as possible. Unfortunately, she's super perceptive so I had to try to use a cover that seemed natural. One day while we were at brunch, Naomi and Zoe were trying to come up with an idea for their next theme party. Then (to Maurice's dismay), they excitedly decided that the theme for the party would be "Midnight in Paris (aka PROM)." It was the perfect! We got everyone in on it, set up a post-engagement party, and planned an elaborate ruse to use my "prom-posal" as my real proposal. Then two weeks before the big day, COVID shut down the whole country down... Attempt #2: Fast forward four months and the world is opening up a little, but I'm fresh out of ideas. Then one day, Aimee's sister mentions to her that wedding dresses are super cheap because weddings have been on hold. We had been pretty open about talking about our marriage plans, so buying a wedding dress early and on sale just made sense. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity, I would surprise her with a proposal when she goes out to try on wedding dresses! I got her friends in on it and set up a romantic spot to propose (Scenic View Gazebo in Newport). I asked her to marry me and she said yes! The day went perfect and everything was right on time... ...well four months later than originally planned, but we wouldn't change a thing!
