Balboa Park
Explore this expansive urban park, home to museums (museum of man, museum of science, aviation museum, many more), gardens, theaters, and the famous San Diego Zoo. Don't miss the Botanical Building, Spanish Village Art Center, and the Japanese Friendship Garden. FREE: 1. International Houses that are opened usually opened on the weekends to see different country's cultures. 2. Walk around the park and see the fountain, organ pavilion, and more.
Balboa Park - House of Pacific Relations - Hall of Nations
Located in Balboa Park, visit different countries international houses. Try local snacks and learn about their culture. Saturdays and Sundays usually have more houses open.
USS Midway Museum
Step aboard the USS Midway, one of America's longest-serving aircraft carriers turned museum. Explore the flight deck, hangar deck, and over 60 exhibits showcasing the ship's rich history.
Relax on the Beaches - Mission Beach is our Favorite!
San Diego boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in California. Spend a day soaking up the sun at iconic spots like: Coronado Beach: Get here by taking the iconic Coronado bridge, or take the ferry from downtown. Check out the famous, free to visit, Hotel Del Coronado where ex presidents and celebrities used to stay. Some say Coronado has the nicest sand. La Jolla Cove - beautiful sunset, check out the seals and sea lions. Pacific Beach - long beach with a nice pier and shops. Mission Beach - our home! strip of land with the mission beach on one side and mission bay on the other! Also check out Belmont park with roller coaster and games. This is the beach next to Pacific beach. Ocean Beach - the Hippie beach, our favorite taco shop: Mike's tacos, dog beach
Cowles Mountain Hike
Check out this 3.0-mile out-and-back trail near La Mesa, California. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 1 h 49 min to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking, mountain biking, and running, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring.
La Jolla Cove
Walk around La Jolla Cove to check out the seals, beautiful rocky beaches. Up the hill there are shops, art galleries, and eateries. Come here during the day or watch sunset! You join a snorkel or kayak tour here!
Sunset Cliffs
See where Josh proposed to Kirsten! Catch this beautiful spot for sunset or during the day. Walk around to see the waves crashing on the rocky cliffs. There is a nice relatively flat short path near the road overlooking the cliffs if you don't want to climb around on the rocks.
San Diego Zoo Safari Park
About a 35 minute drive from central San Diego. See elephants, cheetahs running presentation, and more! Save money with combo passes including the Zoo in Balboa Park and SeaWorld available. cost: ~$70 for a single pass.
Liberty Public Market
Converted military barracks into food stalls, breweries, and restaurants! After stuffing your face and drinking, you can walk around in the park area nearby.
Seaport Village
Walk around the harbor visiting different shops and stores near the water front. Near the Midway museum
Julian Pie in the mountains
For a change of pace, take a 1 hour drive to the mountains and have some famous Julian Apple Pie. The small town a Julian has a beautiful drive if you're looking for a change of scenery!
Tijuana
Bring your passport! Take the San Diego Trolley ($2.50/person) to San Ysidro, CA. about a 50 minute trolley ride. Or you can drive to the border (30 minute drive and park on USA side). Then walk across the border (5 min walk), very easy!. Then when you are in Tijuana, take an Uber to your destination. check out the tacos, the Caesar's Restaurant that created the original first caesar salad! Large zoo, can take the whole day. Look for combo tickets with Safari Park and SeaWorld.
Old Town San Diego
Originally, the indigenous people lived here, then in 1769 it became a Spanish settlement. From this, San Diego grew into a metropolis. It is a fascinating place to visit with living history stores and museums. In the back corner area you may find live music on a stage, many handmade authentic crafts and street food. This is walking distance from the hotel!
