About the Location

Our wedding is taking place in the historically rich area of Eastern Mani, in the Peloponnese region of Greece. Mani is famous as the only area of Greece to never give in to Ottoman rule, despite countless attempts. Maniots are known for being fierce and independent warriors, and the region is rocky, mountainous, and inaccessible.
Gytheio is said to have been founded by Apollo and Hercules, and is best known as the port city of Ancient Sparta. The ruins of Ancient Gytheio are mostly submerged, but some walls can still be seen at Valtaki (where our reception is taking place) in the shallow waters by the Dimitrios shipwreck.
Gytheio also has several small islands, the largest of which is Cranae, and connected to the mainland by a causeway. This island is where our ceremony will take place. Legend has it that Paris and Helen sailed for Troy from Cranae, after fleeing King Menelaus and Sparta.
