Josh and Meg met in February, 2020 right before the pandemic. One night Josh walked into PetSmart to get a few things for his new pup, Chip. Meg saw him walk in, thought he was cute, and walked over to see if he needed help. Little did he know, she was a dog trainer at the time. Meg tried very hard to talk him into joining one of her dog training classes but Josh's schedule worked better with the other trainer. Meg waited and waited... months passed and she would still see Josh occasionally when he'd come in for his class. Then Meg noticed him coming into the store randomly. Mostly for things he didn't even need, or asking questions he already knew the answers to. Then one day he asked her out on a date. It was an open ended invitation for her to meet up with him and Chip for a puppy play date. Meg answered so fast, too fast, and said, "YES!" Josh realized in that moment that she had been waiting for him to ask for a long time. On October 1, 2020 they had their first date. Josh planned a romantic picnic at the UNM duck pond and brought Chip, charcuterie and Capri Suns.
The weekend of Josh and Meg's 2 year anniversary was a busy one. Meg had two back to back weddings to photograph, and made plans with Josh in between all of that. They went roller skating in 80s themed outfits on Friday, woke up early and rode their bikes to Balloon Fiesta on Saturday, and planned their annual hike to Nambe Lake on Sunday. For those who don't know, dating during lockdown was particularly hard. Most of their dates had to be planned outside, or at each other's houses. Josh and Meg's third date was a long 8 mile hike in the Pecos National Forrest to Nambe Lake. Every year since then they would plan the hike in the fall around their anniversary. On October 2, 2022 Josh and Meg trekked the 4 miles to the lake and planned to take some photos there for Christmas cards. Once the tripod was set up and they took a few photos, Josh suggested they take some fun videos too. After a few "takes" when Josh could ensure the camera was working, he got down on one knee and asked Meg to marry him. Of course she said, "Yes!"
