A Most Notable Occasion

Peter and Jordan met the way all great modern love stories begin: in dental school at the University of Michigan—thanks to their dental fraternity and Peter’s mom’s Costco membership. What started as a simple exchange of a borrowed membership card between fraternity executive members (for very important bulk snacks) quickly turned into something much bigger. At the same time, the dental clinics were reorganizing “verticals,” groups of D1–D4 students meant to survive dental school together. A small scheduling oversight by the school left a few students unassigned, and by sheer luck, Jordan’s new vertical became the one and only, Peter Martone. Despite Jordan being a year ahead (a D3) and Peter her “little” D2 colleague, the two became inseparable immediately, assisting each other through nearly every appointment and navigating dental school side by side. If you saw one at school, you were almost guaranteed to be seeing the other standing right beside them. Their first dates were like most classic first dates you've heard of — bonding over hot dogs. After Peter insisted repeatedly that nothing could beat the deal of a Costco hot dog, the two found themselves sampling hot dogs everywhere imaginable, from Costco to IKEA and beyond, all in the name of Joey Chestnut. Somewhere between clinic hours and hot dog taste tests, teamwork turned into love. Today, even with Peter finishing orthodontic residency in Cleveland and Jordan working with her dad in Michigan, they make every moment together count. They’re counting down the days until marriage brings them to the same place—ready to continue a life built together on being best friends and finding very good deals.
