One bleak and dreary February evening in Shanghai, Gracie was walking down Fumin Lu through the rain trying to find the entrance to a little French bistro called Dr. Wine. Gracie had just arrived in Shanghai a month earlier on her semester study-abroad program with NYU Law. Given the darkness, Gracie's unfamiliarity with Shanghai, and her propensity to get lost, she was having trouble finding the door to Dr. Wine. To her pleasant surprise, a handsome Scotsman happened to notice her plight through the window, and opened the door for her. As you guessed, this handsome Scotsman turned out to be none other than Jordan. Jordan and Gracie shared some wine, and the rest is history. After several laughs and interesting stories, the two knew that this was something special. A few dates later, Gracie joined Jordan for a getaway in the bamboo-forested resort town of Anji, China, where they enjoyed hitting golf balls in the driving range and getting chased by the Chinese lifeguard to put on hairnets in the indoor pool (it's a China thing...) The two could not stop laughing the entire trip. It wasn't long before they both knew they wanted to be together for the rest of their lives.
Jordan and Gracie were spending the Christmas holiday with Jordan's brothers and their families in Noosa, Australia. A few days before Christmas, the group had rented a BBQ boat and were sailing around gorgeous Noosa Heads. Unknown to Gracie, Jordan had an entire plot up his sleeve! A few minutes into the cruise, Ben, Jordan's eldest brother and the captain of the boat, dropped off Robin, Jordan's other elder brother, on a remote sandbar and started to drive away. When Gracie asked what Robin was doing, Jordan said Robin just enjoyed spending time by himself spearfishing. Little did Gracie know that Robin would be trekking through the jungle to set up a surprise proposal scene, and would then be hiding in the jungle to photograph it all! Several minutes later, Ben moored the boat, and all of the adults and kids got off. Jordan and Gracie went for a walk along the beach, and soon came across a swift running current. When Gracie suggested they turn around and head back to the boat, Jordan insisted they continue across the current! The two successfully made it to the other side, where Gracie then noticed several shiny envelopes and a few wrapped packages laid along the beach. Jordan then said, "Open the first one and it will explain itself. I love you!" He then kissed her and started to walk away into the jungle. Gracie said, "Wait, you're leaving me here?!" Then she began opening the envelopes and packages. She proceeded to open each package to find various mementos and inside jokes from their relationship, a pillow to sit on, a bottle of wine with a glass, and even Jordan's iPhone queued to a song that is special to both of them (which will be part of the wedding!). Once she opened the last envelope, Jordan finally came out of the jungle, got on one knee, and popped the question. Gracie said yes (!), and the two then popped champagne and celebrated the beginning of the rest of their lives together before heading back to the BBQ boat to celebrate with family.
Some places we have been together...now we are travel buddies for life!
