Our daily refuge from the city. Designed by Frederick Olmsted, the same guy who did Central Park, it is the largest park in Brooklyn and offers tons of walking trails and a 3.3 mile loop great for running and biking.
A cocktail bar in Prospect Heights, Weather Up is where Jon and Pi had one of their earliest dates. All the drinks are well balanced and not too sweet (just ask Pi).
You know how Pi likes comedy? This is THE iconic New York stand-up destination. They have multiple shows a night and you never know when a super famous comic will drop in. Make sure to reserve your seats online ahead of time and if it's full, try Village Underground around the corner.
Make a reservation at Bar SixtyFive, where you can get the best view of the Empire State Building and also be able to see Central Park on the other side. You can enjoy the excellent view with a delicious cocktail, and your price of entry was free. And as a personal note, Pieta and Jon took Pieta's parents to Bar SixtyFive when they visited in July 2019, giving Pieta's parents their first chance to figure out who this "Jon" guy was.
If you can brave the weather, the views you get walking across the Brooklyn Bridge are some of the most iconic of the city. Start in Brooklyn and end up at City Hall in Manhattan. Grimaldi's Pizza in Dumbo beforehand will fortify you for the trip.
Located in the neighborhood of Red Hook, this is the best barbecue in New York. They serve cafeteria style meaning you show up and wait in line, which can be up to two hours long so plan accordingly. Get the sticky ribs and fatty brisket.
Super hip coffee shop nestled amongst great shopping in Downtown Williamsburg. Jon highly recommends the New Orleans cold brew.
Jon's go-to for record shopping. Any genre you could want, as well as awesome books and a nice cafe inside. It's also a short walk from East River State Park which has a great view of the Manhattan skyline.
Almost all pizza spots in New York will do the trick, but John's is Pi's favorite. It can be popular on the weekends but there's ton to do in the neighborhood if you need to kill some time waiting for a table.
A cozy beer-only bar with tons of games to play and pretzels to eat? Jon and Pi obviously go frequently. Mostly locally crafted beer, there are tons of options on tap and even more canned.
