It all began in 2015 when Meg moved out to Breckenridge to pursue a career in ski bummery. She landed a job at Ski Butlers, delivering ski equipment to tourists. A few months into Meg's employment, Ski Butlers operations manager, Andrew Elenbaas, recruited one of his long-time friends to move to Breck & work with him. John's first day on the job gave him the high responsibility of drinking beers in the back of a Ski Butlers van as it drove slowly down Main Street in the Ullr Fest Parade. Watching the parade, Meg saw the van coming & decided to jump the fence to get onboard. In a perfect meet-cute, Meg looked up & locked eyes with a dark & handsome mystery man. Beanie on, full beard, gorgeous smile... she knew she was in trouble. Meg & John spent the rest of the day together, flirting & chatting, getting to know each other as co-workers. Meg's new independence in Breckenridge had her playing hard to get, but John's sweet & subtle charisma was quickly winning her over. Plus, she was suddenly spending a ton of time with John. John later admitted that he would look at their work schedules ahead of time so he could manipulate the delivery routes & they would magically end up in the same van. Turned out, this plan worked wonders. Meg distinctly remembers going to a customer's home to help a family with their rentals. A little girl came in from playing outside in the snow, her tiny little feet frozen from the cold. John took her feet in his hands & breathed into them to warm her toes up. Meg watched this encounter from down the hall & secretly pictured him as a father. Cue ALL the feels! Meg also noticed that John would always be quick to go out of his way to help her with her only child, Doug. This may not sound like a huge deal, but Doug was a bad boy when he was younger. His favorite game was to never listen. Sometimes you would chase him around for an hour before somehow tricking him into giving up. John was always eager to sign up for this torture... weird, right?
Their first date started as not a date at all. Meg met Andrew & John out skiing on a gorgeous early spring day. After a few laps, Andrew bailed, leaving Meg & John to ski alone. Skiing turned into John asking Meg if he could buy her lunch, lunch turned into drinks, drinks turned into more drinks, which then turned into dinner. This date was soon followed by a second, & a third... & the rest, as they say, is history! . . . . . Months turned into years as Meg & John grew as a family & as individuals. John got his Real Estate license & starting selling homes in Boulder, while Meg developed her Interior Design career. Doug also grew up a bit, & is now, quite literally, the best boy.
On October 3rd 2019, John planned a day of horseback riding in the mountains, one of their favorite adventures to do together. Unbeknownst to Meg, he had her engagement ring riding around with him the whole day. He had planned a romantic proposal surrounded by horses, but their guide, Tigger, turned out to be quite a salty old cowboy. After deciding that he didn't want to include Tigger in his proposal, John insisted they leave the ranch & head up over Boreas Pass to marvel at the Aspens. Once reaching a familiar spot, John persuaded a reluctant Meg to get out of their truck & take a picture with him. After a couple botched selfie-timer attempts, John got down on both knees & asked Meghan to be his wife. They cried & screamed & kissed & popped a bottle of champagne on the mountain side. Doug was there all along & of course, enthusiastically agreed to John's proposal, too. Since then they've been planning their wedding & guess what, that's where you come in! We are so excited to share our wedding, celebrate our love, & party our butts off with you!
