Question

Are kids welcome?

Answer

We want all our adult friends and family to have a great time, so please leave the children at home. If that isn't possible, please reach out to us directly!

Question

How should I get to/from the venue?

Answer

Several options! Dundas has tons of parking so you can drive; you can take taxis or an Uber; we'll likely have a shuttle run to/from the Dakota hotel and possibly another run to/from the Scotsman. More to follow!

Question

Scotland huh? That's a different country and that's scary! What's different there?

Answer

Don't be afraid! Scots are nice and very friendly. For the most part, life here is just like life in the U.S. Here's a couple key differences: - You pay for most things with 'contactless' payment. Setting up Apple Pay is the easiest way to do this, but most credit cards have this capability. You will not have a need for cash (They use GBP or "Pounds", they don't use U.S. dollars). - Tips are appreciated, but not required or expected. Many restaurants and places don't even give you a chance.

Question

It's 2022 - we use IPhone apps for everything. Which ones should I download?

Answer

Hinge, Tinder, Bumble... Okay seriously, here's some: Communication: texting may not work or may be very expensive depending on your data plan, we use Signal and WhatsApp. Facebook messenger works too. These apps all have audio/video capabilities too. Travel: Uber, FreeNow (usable to book black cabs - much better than Uber, slightly more $), Trainline to book trains. Ordering delivery: No seamless or door dash. Equivalents here are Deliveroo and Just Eat. Google Maps since you'll all probably get lost.

Question

Okay, hit me with the truth. How different is driving?

Answer

For nervous drivers, we recommend you don't drive or limit how much you do. It takes weeks to really get comfortable driving here, and no one is going to be here that long. Here are some key differences from driving in the US: - Drive on left side of the road, the steering wheel is on the right side - Most cars are manuals, including rentals. Be specific if you need an automatic transmission - On UK equivalent of highways, you pass on the RIGHT. slow lane is on the left. Middle lane is for passing the slow lane, it is NOT a travel lane like in the US - Roads are SIGNIFICANTLY skinnier than in the US. Often you'll have less than a foot of clearance on both sides. If you drive on country roads, which you will at some point, you'll be shocked that two cars can even fit. - Roundabouts are everywhere. They can be scary at first. - There are rarely aggressive drivers. People generally stick to the speed limit and don't drive like jerks. You can drive slowly as long as you stay to the left.
