Flight

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI)

One of the three airports we recommend if you plan on flying, especially if you prefer flying Southwest Airlines. It is approximately one hour from BWI to Fredrick, Maryland. If you have any anxiety about driving, we recommend choosing this airport since it is located just south of Baltimore and the drive to Fredrick keeps you on major interstates (I95 and I70)

Flight

Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)

One of the three airports we recommend if you plan on flying, especially if you prefer flying American Airlines. It is approximately one hour from DCA to Fredrick, Maryland. This airport is located just south of Washington D.C. in Virginia, so expect more challenging traffic navigating north to Fredrick.

Flight

Dulles International Airport (IAD)

One of the three airports we recommend, especially if you prefer flying United Airlines. It is approximately one hour from IAD to Fredrick, Maryland. This airport is located in Virginia, west of DC, and is a relatively easy drive to Frederick, putting you on smaller highways far outside city traffic. Dulles also runs an excellent taxi service called Washington Flyer, which Sara has used many times and highly recommends!

Train

Amtrak

John and Sara have taken Amtrak many times while travelling back and forth between Maryland and upstate New York. If coming from upstate New York you can enjoy view of the Hudson River on your way south to New York City where you would have one transfer at Moynihan Train Hall. Once transferred, the train will take you to Maryland where you will arrive at the BWI stop just outside of Baltimore. The trip itself typically takes ~6-7hrs depending on time of day or if there are any delay. While slightly longer than flying John and Sara enjoy this method of travel and highly recommend it for a more laid back travel experience.
