Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Sara Hiller and John Cleveland
Welcome to Sara's hometown of Frederick, MD! We're so excited to share Frederick with all of you! This historic town has something for everyone, and we hope you find time to explore. Spend some time downtown—it's the heart of everything! It's incredibly walkable with a beautiful linear park alongside a creek with bridges, fountains, and public art. There are tons of great spots for food and drinks, plus world-class breweries and distilleries. For our outdoor enthusiasts, the Appalachian Trail runs right through the area (some of you know why that's meaningful to us!). The hike to Annapolis Rock is stunning. History buffs will love Civil War sites like the National Museum of Civil War Medicine. Gettysburg and Antietam are also both short drives away. For families attending Palm Sunday mass, we've suggested two options below. Enjoy some great meals and local beer, and soak in everything Frederick has to offer! We've included recommendations to some of our favorite places below

Carroll Creek Linear Park

Carroll Creek Linear Park, Frederick, MD 21701

Take a stroll along the creek! This park is 1.3 miles along Carroll Creek, passing public art installations, restaurants, and local shops.

Baker Park

Frederick, MD 21701

A huge downtown park with great walking trails, a large pond, playgrounds, and space to run around! You can walk from the park into downtown by following the creek path (or vice versa)

Delaplaine Arts Center

40 South Carroll Street, Frederick, MD 21701

Small art museum right on Carroll Creek. Suggest taking a stroll down the creek to see the public art displays, and popping in here for 30 min!

Attaboy Beer

400 Sagner Avenue, Frederick, MD 21701

Sara's favorite brewery in the area! Lot's of onsite parking - suggest parking here, getting a beer (highly suggest trying the "Guava No Guava") and then wandering down the linear park to the heart of downtown!

Tenth Ward Distilling Company

55 East Patrick Street, Frederick, MD 21701

Local women-owned distillery. Pro tip: you can order a FANTASTIC burger and fries from Max's next door and they'll deliver to your table in the distillery.

Bakehouse

69 South Market Street, Frederick, MD 21701

Get your morning pastry here!

Emporium Antiques

112 East Patrick Street, Frederick, MD 21701

A huge 25,000 sq ft antique shop with almost 100 dealers' venues. Have a great time wandering through their endless rooms.

National Museum of Civil War Medicine

48 East Patrick Street, Frederick, MD 21701

A weirdly specific but very interesting museum downtown. Reportedly haunted. Make sure you see the finger in the jar!

Appalacian Trail (AT) Trailhead - Annapolis Rock

11175 Baltimore National Pike, Myersville, MD 21773

Sara's personal favorite part of the AT (Appalachian Trail) in MD, but this claim is not vetted by John, our AT-expert, so take it with a grain of salt.

Cunningham Falls State Park

14274 William Houck Drive, Thurmont, MD 21788

Great state park with short and long hikes to the falls

The National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton

339 South Seton Avenue, Emmitsburg, MD 21727

Palm Sunday Masses at 11am and 1:30pm This is 20 min north of the hotels, but worth the trek to see the Shrine and grounds

St John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church

118 East 2nd Street, Frederick, MD 21701

Palm Sunday Masses: 7:30am, 9:00am, and 11:00am Parking: Use the Church Street Garage (free parking Sundays until 2pm)
