It was the start of sophomore year. The first week of classes started, a.k.a. syllabus week (sylly week), where homework was slim, icebreakers were far too common, and the town was alive. Madie had gone out for the night with friends, many of whom will be walking down the aisle with them. It was August 19th, 2019 to be exact. John and Madie were both involved in Greek life at the University of Missouri, and that evening Madie and friends headed back to John’s fraternity, Delta Upsilon (DU) to see some friends. As they were walking through the halls of DU, Madie saw John’s high school friend Sam, now groomsman, whom she had met freshman year. She went to say hi and this is when Madie met John for the first time. The typical greeting between college students is just a "Hey, nice to meet you," but Madie gave John a firm handshake upon meeting as she was smitten and didn’t know what to do with herself. The couple says they don't believe in love at first sight but that if their story was a movie... it kind of felt like a love at first sight scene. They hit it off! The couple found out they were in the same economics class, which is how John got Madie's number... he said he would need help with homework... in reality, it was the other way around. Madie does advertising and communications. John does accounting, numbers, and facts. It just works. John took Madie out on their first formal date on October 27th. They went to G&D Pizzaria and of course, had to get Andy's frozen custard after. Fast forward to August 19th, 2023, John unintentionally proposed on the same date they met. Talk about full circle! He proposed at Madie's childhood home. They spent the day perusing around town, not touching their phones until the day was over. They got brunch, stopped at a small local brewery, walked around Grayslake Days, and ended at the first restaurant Madie took John to in Mundelein, Tina G's! They came home to Madie's parents, sister and brother-in-law, niece and nephew, two of her high school best friends, and a surprise guest: John's Mom! It was THE BEST day. We cannot imagine a life without the other in it. We are so lucky to have the best families and the best friends!
John grew up in Saint Louis, Missouri. He spent most of his childhood in a neat Italian neighborhood, filled with great shops, great people, the beautiful St. Ambrose Church, and of course, great food! He would not be opposed to living in this neighborhood for the rest of his life. John went to St. Ambrose for elementary and middle school. He went to St. John Vianney High School where, similar to the bride, he went on Kairos, and played volleyball for the school on top of club volleyball. He swam for a little bit, but volleyball was his main sport. He was a team captain, MVP, and a great setter. John continued to play volleyball for Mizzou's men's club volleyball. At the University of Missouri, John studied Accounting and Economics. He graduated a semester early with his Masters in Accounting and then spent time studying for the CPA. John completed and passed all four CPA exams before starting full-time at PWC in July 2023. In his free time, you might find him playing golf, playing chess, or reading.
Madisen grew up in Mundelein, a northern suburb of Chicago, and went to Carmel Catholic High School. She played volleyball for the school and did travel club volleyball as well. Similar to the groom, she was MVP, team captain, and had the best time with this sport. Not similar to the groom, she was libero/back row because... well she's short, but quick. She misses the game and now loves playing in sand volleyball leagues. At the University of Missouri, Madisen studied Journalism while taking on leadership roles in her sorority and other student organizations. She is currently working for a digital marketing agency specializing in travel and tourism. In her free time, you can find her hanging with her niece and nephew, going to the gym with her dad and sister, traveling for work, attending town events, or traveling to visit family/friends.
