If you are coming to Texas, then you need to get some BBQ! This place is my (Lauren) favorite BBQ to go to. Just be warned- like several other popular BBQ joints, this place can get pretty busy at peak times and the parking lot is a nightmare. I suggest going on off times (4pm dinner anyone?) for less of a wait time and assurance that they won't run out of something before you can order.
Congress Ave has a lot of great restaurants and shops on it to visit. It also takes you straight to the Capitol at the heart of downtown Austin. The Congress Bridge is also home to a large population of Mexican Free-Tailed bats. Each night just as the sun sets, you can see thousands of bats fly out from under the bridge to go munch on some bugs. Early November is the end of the season for them so it's a toss-up whether or not there will be some to see while you are here but it's worth letting you know about it!
This boardwalk is a nice way to enjoy a lovely walk with a great view of downtown! It takes you over Lady Bird lake in some parts and also connects to the trail that lets you loop around lake if you want to get some extra steps in and walk around downtown.
BEST CINNAMON ROLLS. EVER. Seriously. Just get one.
This is a nice walking/hiking trail right by our house. If you want get outdoors at all while you are here there is space to do that with either a paved walkway, or more rugged, woodsy/creek trails. Just watch out for the mountain bikers!
