John planned to get engaged a bit sooner in the relationship, but as you can imagine, it was difficult to sneak away to buy a ring during an active pandemic. In early 2021 he finally managed to secure a beautiful ring - a minor miracle, mind you, as Lauren has no sample jewelry laying around the house and John knows nothing of jewelry. To propose, John chose their favorite walking area in Austin, Mills Pond. There's a beautiful path around a lake that they have walked countless times. At one part of the path, there is a dock leading to a gazebo on the lake. (At this point, it is just John telling the story, as Lauren said she blacked out around here.) John took her to the gazebo, told a few tales of love and commitment, and got down on one knee.
