Our StoryOur Story

A Tale of Love, Distance, and Legendary Calves

Our story? Oh, it's one for the ages. Some called us crazy, others smiled knowingly, but guess what? We're getting married, so who’s laughing now? Picture this: August 2019. Jessye had just arrived in Denver, barely four days into her Rocky Mountain adventure, when a friend invited her to join a soccer game. Despite gasping for air in the altitude, she must have done something right because they kept asking her back. And then, fate decided to step in—on cleats. Enter John, who arrived in style, strolling across the field from his old silver Jeep. Their eyes met across the grass in a moment so cinematic, even the clouds paused to watch. John thought, “Wow, she’s adorable,” while Jessye, ever the athlete, thought, “Goodness, look at those calves!” Three games in, John finally made his move—off the field, that is. He asked Jessye out for a drink, with one tiny detail: he was moving to Saudi Arabia in two weeks. Perfect timing, right? Jessye, fresh to Denver and not looking for anything serious, thought this was the ideal setup. A drink, a bit of fun, and then a quick farewell. But life had other plans. One date turned into a whirlwind, and before they knew it, they had spent every day of those two weeks together. Then came the dreaded airport goodbye. Sure, it was tearful, but hey, they were realistic. They figured, "That was fun, time to move on." But 7,609 miles and a nine-hour time difference couldn’t keep them apart. They talked every day, defying time zones and logic. John zipped back to the U.S. a few times within the first six months, and they even had an epic trip to Canada where, somewhere between the maple syrup and national parks, they realized they were falling in love. Then, the world went sideways—hello, pandemic! Jessye had planned to visit John in Saudi Arabia in March 2020, much to her dad's dismay. But when COVID broke out, John made the decision to return to Denver instead for a road trip through Utah (you're welcome dad!). What was supposed to be a one-week visit turned into an eight-month quarantine adventure split between a tiny one-bedroom apartment in Providence, RI and a beautiful home next door to John's parents in Vernon, CT. They baked more bread than they could eat, binge-watched "Tiger King," walked miles upon miles, and most importantly, they got to know and love each other very deeply. When Saudi Arabia finally reopened its borders, they had an airport farewell so dramatic, they should’ve handed out tissues at the gate. Eight more months apart, but they made it through. And now? They're back in Denver, settled into their first home together, and ready to kick off the next chapter. So, here we are, beyond excited to share our love story and our big day with you. It’s been a wild ride, and we can’t wait to see where the next adventure takes us. All our love, Jessye & John
