Question

Are children invited?

Answer

Yes, we're hoping that guests will use this wedding as an opportunity to visit Mauritius and make it a great family holiday. Therefore, children are invited and very welcome under your own supervision and responsibility. We request that you advise us of their attendance by rsvp or by email along with their name and age for seating purposes. Our dinner buffet will cater to a wide range of culinary tastes however food allergies must be advised. Please contact the Hilton Hotel directly for babysitting services.

Question

What is the currency used in Mauritius?

Answer

Mauritian Rupees. There is a currency exchange hall between arrivals and the exit in the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam airport. This is the best place to exchange your cash, with many counters offering competitive rates. All major credit cards are accepted in most hotels but not restaurants and you may need cash for visiting the market and for other activities.

Question

How do we get around in Mauritius?

Answer

The best way to get around is to rent a car from the airport. Alternatively, taxis are another option. You can use public transport during the day but we do not recommend using it at night. Please note that shops close early (5pm) in Mauritius. We will be providing transport on the day of the ceremony.

Question

What is a good amount of time to visit Mauritius?

Answer

We recommend a minimum of 4 days to visit Mauritius. There are many sights and tourist attractions with some of our favourites listed on the 'Things to do' tab.

Question

What languages are spoken in Mauritius?

Answer

Mauritius is a multi-lingual country. The native languages spoken are Creole and French. English is well spoken especially by those working in the tourism and hospitality sectors, however they tend to be more fluent in Creole and French.

Question

Is Mauritius safe?

Answer

Yes, Mauritius is a relatively safe country. However like most city centers, Port Louis is no different, you need to be aware of pick pockets in places like markets. Also, for those going to nightclubs, have a plan for how you're going to return to your accommodation that night and don't venture off far on foot.

Question

We need accommodation to be more budget friendly, what are the best options?

Answer

We recommend using the two holiday home sites listed on the accommodations page. Airbnb is another site to find more affordable options. For convenience we suggest trying to stay on the west side of the island close to the Hilton as we will be providing transport on the day of the ceremony.

Question

Where's the craic?! (Irish word for fun)

Answer

The north side of the island, particularly Grand Baie, is well known for its nightlife. However there are a few popular nightclubs and pubs on the west side of the island.

Question

What will the weather be like?

Answer

August actually lies within the winter season which lasts from May until November, however even though the climate is slightly cooler than the summer, temperatures are still likely to stay in the mid 20's celsius dropping down in the evenings to between 15 and 20 degrees celsius.
