How We Met

It all began with a balloon girl

Seriously – it was the summer of 2018 and Pride was upon us. Joanna was out celebrating with her friends when she happened to cross right in front of Rose’s path. Rose was dressed head to toe in a rainbow of balloon streamers and Joanna just had to say hi. Both blushing, we exchanged names and info with the promise of a future meeting. Little known to Joanna, Rose had seen her around town before and had always wanted to talk to her so Rose messaged Joanna on Facebook asking if she’d like to go out that evening. Joanna said yes of course, so we met up at a local gay bar. We had each other at the first l'chaim as we danced the night away! Joanna took Rose home in her Honda Insight as the couple headbanged to Born Again by Beast in Black (listen for it in the wedding playlist!), then crashed at a friend's house for the night. The couple fell asleep excited for their new future together.

The Proposal

Why spell it out when we can simply share it with you? Follow this link to find the video! https://youtu.be/MKMAUn8Xw-8 If the link doesn't work simply search "Rose Petersky proposes to Joanna Lordier!!!" on YouTube and it should pop right up! Oh yes, backstory. We suppose that we should share some details with you on that account. As you read above, Rose and Joanna met at Pride during the summer of 2018. We knew very early on that marriage was in our future and being our typical silly selves, Rose thought that there would be no better time than pride the following year to propose to Joanna. They'd already picked out a ring together and Joanna knew that Rose had proposal plans in mind, though she was rather ignorant as to the exact details. Meanwhile, Rose had everything figured out (or so she thought!) She had coordinated with the Northern Nevada Pride planners ahead of time to have a public proposal on the main stage at 12:30. She had a secret telegram group to let friends know when everything would go down. She even got two friends to tell Joanna that there was a band playing on the mainstage at that time, which she would not want to miss (wink!) It all seemed to come together as planned. Yet when Rose went to the stage (she told Joanna she just had to use the bathroom), Joanna did not seem at all interested in leaving her rock by the river. However, her spot was close enough that she could be heard by the loudspeaker, so Rose decided that it would be no big deal. Minutes passed like hours while the M.C. called Joanna's name and Rose waited backstage. She almost wondered if her proposal would not come to be. Then, Joanna emerged to an audience of a few hundred people who had been waiting on the edge of their seats. When Rose went onstage to present the ring, the crowd went wild! After hugs, and tears, the couple departed the stage to enjoy the rest of Pride.
