Flight
There are two major airports in Costa Rica. Both are priced about the same. Airlines that fly to Costa Rica: United, Southwest, Spirit, Delta, & others. Liberia (LIR) is the closest to Tamarindo, located in the Guanacaste Province. It is about a 1.5 hour drive to our villa. There are taxis and a possible scheduled shuttle. If you want the quickest in and out, LIR is your best bet. However, for some cities, the larger San Jose (SJO) airport may be a cheaper option. There are buses to take you to Tamarindo for about $10-$55 (SEE FAQS.) Though Costa Rica is a small country, it is still very much a third world country and the roads match. What looks like a short drive from SJO to Tamarindo will actually be about 6 hours. If you are adventurous, a car rental may be a fun way to go! (SEE FAQS) Note: J.J. and Beatrice are flying Southwest Airlines into Liberia (LIR) on August 16 and flying out of San Jose (SJO) at the end of our honeymoon. An open jaw route may work for you too.
