Jimmy proposed on January 4th after a marathon Scrabble session. It was calm and sweet and perfect. In the past, when we had talked about getting married, we had said we would head to Europe somewhere, just the two of us and probably our parents. When planning this thing became a reality, we realized that we wanted to be surrounded by everyone we love most in the world. l knew l wanted to get married somewhere that meant something to me, and so we decided to have the ceremony in the place I love most in the world - our backyard. l can't wait to look out my window every day to look at the place where we promised each other forever. We knew we wanted a fall wedding because it's the only time of year in Nebraska when you can reasonably count on the weather (knock on wood). So we pulled up the Huskers football schedule and picked a weekend with an away game that we didn't particularly want to watch. September 21, the Illinois game, was perfect. From there we found an awesome venue for the reception - the old spaghetti factory downtown. Now the race is on to plan a wedding in 8 months. l got this. - D
We met in law school, and started dating basically right after graduating. Marrying a lawyer wasn't exactly what I had in mind, but he's kinda the best. We like geeky stuff and baseball. We do nothing but watch football and read books on Sundays. We're cat people who happen to be head over heels in love with our dog. Sure, we introduce evidence exhibits into arguments, but justice always finds a way. We travel as often as we can. We've been to London, Paris, Rome. We rode water buses in Venice and looked out over the world from the top of the Hancock Tower. I have a knack for finding cheap travel deals. Jimmy tells me when it's time to stop planning and just enjoy myself. I hold on to his passport for him, and he holds my hand everywhere we go. It's perfect. He proposed after an evening of playing many games of Scrabble in which none of the words on the board at any point were "Will," "You," "Marry," or "Me." Planning is definitely more my game than his. He's my best friend in the world, and there is nobody alive who I'd rather be doing this life with. So join us as we celebrate Jimmy making an honest woman out of me. I seriously can't wait.
Being with Dani is a blessing. I can't imagine a world without her. We've been together for awhile now, and, for whatever reason, she still likes me. Whether it's a brat at US Cellular Field, a train ride through Tuscany, or a trip to the British Library...there is no one I would rather spend those moments with. I cannot express how much fun I have with her. I enjoy our lazy Sundays watching Redzone, I love our Lord of the Rings and Star Wars marathons, and I wouldn't trade a day of Scrabble or Ticket to Ride with her for anything in the world. Of course Dani isn't without her flaws. She is, after all, a Packer fan. While this tends to be a deal-breaker, Dani does her best to make up for it. She loves baseball (we've been to seven stadiums, and we hope to get to all thirty soon), a good corny sci-fi series, and going to bed at 7 pm to read. Add to that her (free) fantasy football advice, her love of awful action movies, and an insatiable appetite for pizza, and you've got yourself a perfect woman -- Packer fandom aside. I am unbelievably lucky to have Dani in my life. She is a great friend, a wonderful person, and my perfect partner. How I got this lucky? I don't know. But at least I was smart enough to lock it down before she wised up. Here's too many years of pizza tours, video game marathons, and Husker football season tickets. Let's get started!
