Jessie and Dane both started at JMU the same year-Jessie as a Freshmen at the school and Dane as the assistant Swim Coach for the JMU Swim and Dive Team. We did not start dating until 6 years after Jessie graduated from JMU. They had a romantic spark at one of Jessie's teammates weddings in 2016 (shout out to the Hermes') and a year later (with some texting in between) began dating after the Frantz wedding. Jessie and Dane had a long distance relationship between DC and Harrisonburg for 4 years (including the Covid year where Jessie taught Kindergarten online). Jessie moved to be with Dane in Harrisonburg in 2021 where she now teaches Kindergarten at JWES in Bridgewater. Dane totally surprised Jessie and popped the question in August of 2022 in Tortola of the British Virgin Islands (their first international trip since covid). It was the most magical place and time to get engaged. Minus Jessie getting a migraine right after (attributing that to all the excitement) they celebrated their engagement for the rest of their trip (and continue to celebrate now)! Back home Jessie and Dane love to travel together, do house projects, watch movies together (and shows), as well as visit local wineries, walk Maddie, cook together, and host and visit friends among so many other things!
One morning in BVI (Aug. 9, 2022 to be exact) Jessie was just sipping her coffee, reading, and scrolling through her phone. She kept asking Dane what he wanted to do that day but he kept giving vague answers (Jessie still didn't realize this until after the fact). As Jessie is just sitting on the couch Dane all of a sudden runs back to the bedroom and then comes right back out because he noticed a man popped out of the trees behind our house (ha). Again Jessie not thinking anything of it just laughed because that was literally the first time a human had made contact with them in the 4 full days in that house so far. Dane seemed a little thrown off by it (and now we know why) but after realizing the man was just working on the house nextdoor he went back to the bedroom then went out on the deck. Jessie scrolling on her phone reading a buzzfeed article (it was the top 17 most comfortable sandals) asking Dane if it was "Olukai's" that he owned and "how comfortable are they?". Now to set the scene they really did have the most incredible view (pictures are in the gallery page of this wedding site) but Jessie had seen it everyday (it didn't get old) and wondered why Dane all of a sudden was calling her over. She thought oh maybe there's an animal or something on the water! But he was just trying to get her off her buzzfeed article and in the moment. Thankfully he did (she still had no idea what was going on and even accidentally touched the box in Danes pocket). He said "we really know how to pick the best spots" and Jessie said "well you know how to pick the best spots I just book the flights". Dane then said "No we do it together. Do you want to do it together for the rest of our lives?" and then he got down on one knee and asked Jessie to marry him! Oh and she said Yes :)
