We both grew up in Charlotte, NC and went to the same small private school from the time we were 7 years old. Justin had a brief flash of brilliance when he asked me out in 6th grade...but that flash was short lived, seeing as how he dumped me 3 weeks later! Middle School and High School were spent hanging in the same circle of friends. Then we both attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and would occasionally bump into each other, but never really hung out. Justin moved to Dallas in 2009 and it wasn't until 2016, when I relocated to Dallas for work, that we reconnected. Justin had come to love this city over the years and played the role of tour guide for me! Introducing me to his friends, showing me his favorite places and soon I loved the city as much as he did...and also realized maybe he wasn't the same 13 year old that had dumped me 20 years before :) It took a little while to process what was happening...and we were both a little nervous...but eventually we knew we wanted to be more than just friends. Even if all of our friends figured it out before we did...
Labor Day Weekend of 2017 we took our first road trip together to West Texas. We stayed in renovated trailers in Marfa & Terlingua, visited Big Bend National Park and it was an experience that neither of us will ever forget. It was such an amazing trip to one of the most unique parts of this country that it became very special to both of us. As soon as we got home, we knew we wanted to go back and spend more time in Marfa. If you've never been, put it on your bucket list!!! October of 2018, we planned our next trip and rented the cutest little AirBnB house on the outskirts of town. If you've ever been to West Texas, you know that it has it's own lifestyle and pace...which is sloooooow. Somehow in spite of that, Justin managed to have a gorgeous flower arrangement and champagne secretly delivered to our house and arranged for a photographer to hide in the yard to capture the entire proposal. I was so surprised and burst into tears. The photographer took us to a scenic overlook by the house for pictures together and we will both treasure that moment forever!
