How we (re)met

and isn't it just so pretty to think, all along there was some invisible string tying you to me?

Once upon a time (In June 2020) Dan and Jess both swiped right on each other on Hinge. But there’s more to the story than that… Trying to tell people how they met is always a story that stumps Jess and Dan. It’s not as simple as ”on a dating app” but also not as simple as “through friends.” So where do they start? Jess and Dan both attended SUNY Brockport from 2011-2014, and little did they know at the time, they spent a lot of time in the same places. First, there was the fact that Jess’ sorority sister, Sam, was Dan’s cousin, and Dan and his friends spent time at the sorority house, where Jess lived, for parties. There was also that Jess became close friends with Jim, his roommate through and after college. Brockport is a small school and they somehow knew a lot of the same people, but never officially met or noticed each other. There’s a photo post-college at a bar, with Jess and her friends in the foreground with Dan in the background. It’s one of their favorite photos to show people because it so perfectly captures how intertwined their lives were before they even met. Jess and Dan were formally introduced in 2019 when Jess moved back after spending a year in NYC and actually was seeing one of Dan’s friends. She walked into the bar where Dan and his friends sat and it was definitely not love at first sight when they shook hands—Dan was a little too invested in the Syracuse game on TV and Jess had consumed a little too much vodka and was just a little too loud for Dan who was trying to pay attention. Later that year they crossed paths again at the same New Year’s party where Jess was horrified by the fedora Dan was wearing unironically. They had no idea that less than a year later they would recognize each other on a dating app and swipe right, both interested in meeting someone after a global pandemic. They decided to give it a shot, met up for drinks and the rest is history. They spent hours drinking and talking, without a break or lull in conversation.

How he asked

he knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring

Neither Jess or Dan had ever been with someone where everything just came so easily. There was never really a question of where they stood with their feelings after that first date. They had the same sarcastic sense of humor, same stance on life and love and wanted the same kind of future…together. They met each other’s family and friends, and quickly fell in love with them too. They moved in together in June 2021 after spending pretty much every day together (mostly at Jess’ house) and Dan getting really sick of the extra stop on his commute. Jess' cat, Pancakes, was really excited to have someone else to spoil her. In July 2021, Dan asked Jess to marry him at Cobb’s Hill, a place where they frequented throughout their relationship for walks and picnics. It was the easiest “Yes” she ever said.

Pop the prosecco, she's becoming a Greco

and at every table, I'll save you a seat

Jess and Dan are so excited to have all of their family and friends together to celebrate their marriage in August 2022. There's guaranteed to be a lot of dancing, laughs, drinks and if we're honest, Taylor Swift music. See you in Rochester!
