Question

What should I expect from the events other than the wedding?

Answer

We have planned events for both Friday and Sunday and hope you will be able take advantage of the three day weekend to spend some extra time with us. On Friday night, we will have a welcome dinner and drinks. It will be an informal time for everyone to settle in, hang out, and appreciate the beauty of the area, and we will likely also have some toasts. On Sunday, we will have the venue all day which includes a small natural swimming area and a 40 person outdoor hot tub! We are going to swim, set up lawn games, and have food and drinks available from the mid morning through the afternoon. We hope that many of you with flexibility to travel on Sunday evening or Monday will be able to stay through the day to spend some additional quality time with each other and enjoy the California sunshine! However, we completely understand that some of you will want to travel home that day, so you can also feel free to stop by to say hello and get some food before getting on the road.

Is there a dress code for the different events?

Answer

We don't have a strict dress code, but some guidelines and suggestions are below. Please also feel free to express your personal style and add flair to the events! A couple reminders: First, we are at elevation and it might get chilly at night. There will be heat lamps available and the dancing on Saturday will be partially inside, but please still prepare to bring layers! Second, we will be outside for all events and the ground may be soft. Please keep this in mind when choosing footwear, especially if you are considering wearing heels. Friday Night Dinner: Look sharp but feel comfortable. Ideas: button downs or flannels, nice tops, sun dress or skirt, jeans/chinos, sandals/kicks/boots. Instead Of: t-shirts, sweats, running shoes. Saturday Wedding: Dress for a festive party! Ideas: suits or blazers (with or without a tie), formal tops and slacks, dresses, jumpsuits, dress shoes/flats/heels. Instead Of: jeans, shorts, sneakers. Sunday: We're swimming and hanging out in the sun all day - wear something comfortable and bring a bathing suit if you want!

The Hideout seems way out there - how remote is it?

Answer

Yes, the venue is high in the Sierras and is down a 1-mile, semi-paved road. There is very limited cell service in the immediate area so we recommend downloading good directions to get there (i.e., turning on Google Maps while you still have service). Once at the venue, there will be Wifi available if needed. Also, as a reminder, we will have shuttles running to and from Kirkwood for the wedding on Saturday. For the events on Friday and Sunday, there will be parking available for everyone.

What will the weather be like?

Answer

The weather in Kirkwood is typically sunny and dry during this time of year, with highs around 70 and lows in the mid-40's. As is typical for Northern California, it will be a good idea to have many options for layers as the temperature may vary throughout the day.

What type of car do I need?

Answer

The Hideout is down a 1 mile dirt/gravel road. The road is totally passable, but we recommend that you get a larger car such as an SUV or minivan (4WD is ideal). Sedans and mid-size cars should work as well, but we don't recommend very small cars (e.g. Kia Soul, Honda Fit).
