Our Story

Juliette was born in the city of Allentown, known mostly to fans of Billy Joel. As a young child, she enjoyed the expansive green yards of Pennsylvania, and an increasingly crowded home, until one day her father received an offer to move the family across the country to the less-green pastures of San Diego. From there, life proceeded as expected, with lots of school and extracurriculars. After majoring in Chemistry at University of California, Santa Barbara, Juliette continued on during her post-college years, both in Paris for a year and subsequently in San Diego. Jeremy was born in Portland, Oregon, the product of two tall families, and eventually he would ascend to the alpha spot as the tallest person from either side. However, at a young age he had already decided that he cared little for running, thus precluding a life of luxury to be earned playing basketball. Instead, he opted for the lazy life of a baseball pitcher (a unique position where everyone is required to throw the ball back to you, no movement required!) and reading, taking advantage of the infamous Oregon rain as an excuse to remain indoors. After college, where Jeremy pursued Computer Science at the University of Oregon, he moved to San Diego for work; for most people a dream, for Jeremy the only place he had been given an offer. At the recommendation of a friend, he decided to try Coffee Meets Bagel, a dating service geared towards more meaningful interaction by limiting the women's choices each day (it doesn't sound very feminist, but it works). One day in January 2019, Juliette made the bold decision to venture into the "Others" section of her options on Coffee Meets Bagel. It was here that she first laid eyes upon Jeremy. On a chance whim, she reached out with the simple question, "Traveled anywhere cool lately? :)" expecting a simple response. A quick detour to Jeremy's perspective: a notification relayed that he'd received a message. He opened the app to see Juliette, the short, brown-haired beauty staring at him across the ether. Immediately, he thought, "Catfish." Not only had she liked him back, but she had sent the first message, and there was a smiley face at the end. This was too good to be true, but hey, he could get some practice talking with this obvious bot account until she asked for money. After some back and forth, Juliette suggested they meet up the coming Sunday at a speakeasy in UTC, to which Jeremy quickly accepted and proceeded to freak out over for the next couple days. The date was planned for February 3rd, 2019, and Jeremy, unfamiliar with the mall layout and going out in general, became lost. Jeremy called Juliette to ask directions, and it was when she answered that he first began to fall in love with her. Her voice was like music to his ears, both in that she was real, and that she sounded beautiful, intelligent, and strong. She graciously accepted his navigational failure and asked what color he was wearing. "Gray," he first said, and should've stopped there. His mind was on her voice, however, and believing that this was too simple an answer for a woman of her caliber, he chose to really examine his sweater and elaborate. "SOBER gray." For some, this might've been the end, but she laughed it off, which only sent Jeremy further spinning head over heels for that musical sound. It must've worked, because they found each other shortly thereafter, and the date went better than either could have expected. They got drinks, sparingly ate the free breadsticks to avoid overeating in front of their date (certainly one of the most grueling experiences Jeremy had ever had), and at the end of the night agreed to a second date soon. Jeremy literally skipped back to his car, called his friend Cheema to get the excitement off his chest, and began to plan their next date. The rest, as they say, is history.
