The closest airport is John Wayne in Orange County. The airport code is SNA. It is 25 miles and about 30 minutes (depending on traffic) from the airport to Dana Point. From LAX, it is 63 miles and about an hour to Dana Point.

Getting around...

Southern California is very spread out, and there is no real good public transportation in Orange County. We recommend that you rent a car, or use Lyft (or Uber) to get around. That said, if you fly into John Wayne Airport, you can take the Amtrak to the beach area. From John Wayne, you'll need to take a Lyft/Uber/Cab to either the Santa Ana or Irvine Amtrak Station, hop the train, and get off in either San Juan Capistrano or San Clemente. From San Juan Capistrano or San Clemente, you'll need to take another Lyft/Uber/cab to Dana Point.
