How It All Started

"Do you want to go to Flipside?"

Jennifer actually glared at Josh before they officially met. She was really getting sick and tired of random people walking into the band's rehearsals, so she glared when a stranger walked across the lot. Luckily, when the band director called her over to meet the new audio engineer, Josh didn't hold it against her. In fact, Josh stood in the stands at a bad high school football game in the rain the next night talking with her. They both readily admit to not remembering exactly how bad their team was losing, but they know it wasn't pretty. After much debating and reassurances from friends, Josh "friended" Jennifer on Facebook and awkwardly said hello the next day. To which Jennifer awkwardly replied. They ended up talking about a slew of things. For example, places Josh should check out now that he was in Nashville. This resulted in Josh saying, "do you want to go to Flipside?" Jennifer, in an entirely aloof move, asked Josh if he seriously thought driving across Nashville at 7 p.m. on a Saturday night and expecting to park and get fed before Sunday was intelligent. Thank goodness Josh asked if there was someplace closer they could meet. The two ended up at Burger Republic (see the Things to Do tab). Upon spending way too much time talking, the restaurant finally (not so) subtly kicked the two out. They've been together ever since.

The Proposal

"So, I'm going to be cold, wet, miserable, and not engaged?"

As two people that analyze everything and talk to one another about everything, the fact that Josh was going to propose was not exactly what you would call a surprise. Josh being Josh had to check and make sure that Jennifer would like the plans he had made and like the ring he had in mind. Jennifer being Jennifer just said she'd be happy with whatever Josh was proud of. So, after consulting Emily and Hannah (see the Wedding Party tab), Jennifer's family, his own family, and almost all of his friends, Josh hatched a multi-pronged plan to avoid any surprises (Josh knew from how asking her out went, having a back-up plan may be a good idea). Josh's plan? Tell her he didn't have a ring. So, when they were going on a trip to The Smokie Mountains, Josh told Jennifer that he did not have a ring. Jennifer dealt with this by flipping out to her friends (Jennifer really had no free time until April, and obviously Josh had forgotten this). Upon Josh saying that the weather in The Smokies would not be in the mid-50s but literally freezing, Jennifer became greatly unhappy. Thus, Jennifer replied, "so, I'm going to be cold, wet, miserable, and not engaged?" Needless to say, Jennifer was miffed and not expecting the proposal. The day Josh proposed was rainy; however, they were basically standing in a waterfall, so it really didn't matter. After hiking up to Laurel Falls, Josh asked Jennifer to get a picture and went to grab the stranger down the way. After making Jennifer wait about five minutes to take a photo (Jennifer just though Josh had made a new best friend), Josh finally came back and wouldn't face the camera. "So, uh, you know how I said I didn't have a ring." "You're a liar." Josh got down (hesitantly, as they were in a waterfall) on one knee and asked Jennifer if she would marry him. Jennifer said, "yes!"
