Hotel
This is where the Wedding will take place. This is the BEST option for anyone trying to minimize travel needs. The hotel is located directly across from the Killarney train station. We have a room block available for 30 rooms on July 31st, rate of 195-205 Euro. We have 10 rooms available for August 1, same rate. This is peak travel season for the area. FOR BOOKING ROOMS UNDER OUR WEDDING "ROOM BLOCK": *Message Jen as the rooms are booking up fast. You can call, or reserve by emailing: reservations@greatsouthernkillarney.com Mention our wedding date (31st of July, 2022) and our names (Jennifer Baker and Owen Murphy). *They also offer self catering houses on site if you are looking for a home feel (but they must be reserved for a one week minimum).
Flight
Aer Lingus flies direct to Ireland from Boston Logan Airport, JFK in New York, and Newark Liberty International in New Jersey. For anyone on the West Coast, they fly direct from Los Angeles and San Francisco as well. The nearest international airports to our wedding venue/town are "Cork" and "Shannon." You would need a car or transportation option from these two airports. From Dublin, you could take the train directly to downtown Killarney.
Travel Note
For those early planners, and non-drivers, the easiest and most secure travel option would be to fly directly into Dublin International Airport. From there, you have the option to tour Dublin for a day or two, and get adjusted to the time difference. When ready to head to Killarney, take a taxi to Dublin Heuston train station. Take the "Cork Service" line (www.irishrail.ie) to Killarney station. *Of note: there is a train change/transfer at Mallow station, to connect you over to the "Tralee" rail. The "Mallow" stop comes directly after the "Limerick" stop and is about 2 hours into the train ride. From Mallow, it's approximately one hour to Killarney. Total time 3 hours, 20 minutes. This train line runs every two hours, starting at 7am and last train is usually about 9pm. You have the option to book train tickets in advance, or at a kiosk in the station, or with a live person.
House Or Rental
If you are looking to stay in an apartment or house rental near the venue, then you will want to search for rentals in Killarney. Please reach out and ask for suggestions to ensure you're close to downtown! If you want to stay in Dublin before or after the wedding, we suggest staying at Zanzibar Locke on the Ha'penny Bridge. They have lots of safety features, are clean, and great rates. It's a hotel, but has rental options through AirBnb or direct on their site.
Train
The Killarney train station is located directly across the street from the venue (The Great Southern). This train station can be accessed from many other locations in Ireland. It is recommended to make bookings in advance, as July & August are peak tourist travel times. If calling the Irish Rail from outside the Republic of Ireland, call: +353 (0)1 836 6222. For online bookings: open the website address above, then expand the "General Information" tab, followed by clicking on the "Routes Serviced" link (at the bottom), you can view the stations and time table. *Note: as of October 2021, you are required to book an assigned seat. Each cabin has an electronic display that shows the passengers names above their assigned seats. The ticket rep may not tell you this, because travelers can reserve the seats online after purchasing the tickets. To save yourself the headache, ask to have a seat assigned to you when you purchase the ticket.
Rental Car
We recommend renting a car ONLY if you, or someone traveling with you, has prior experience driving in Ireland or the UK. The steering wheel is on the opposite side of the car, the road directions are opposite as well. Road lanes tend to be smaller in width. If you choose this option, you may rent a car at Farrenfore in County Kerry (the airport that is 20 min from the wedding venue). You can google search car rental + Kerry Ireland to see available car rental company options. Automatic cars are available.
