This is a must visit activity each time we visit Athens. The taproom is beautiful and the outdoor patio is a great place to enjoy a beverage. Check out their site for more information: creaturecomfortsbeer.com/taproom/
The University of Georgia, founded in 1785, is one of the oldest public universities in the United States. The flagship of the USoG, it is classified as a Public Ivy. Beginning in downtown Athens, you'll arrive at the Arch, installed in the 1800s, it stands as the gateway between campus & downtown. As you move south, you are surrounded by beautiful, historic buildings, all of which are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Our wedding ceremony will be held in this area, at Historic Herty Field. Moving to central campus, UGA's Sanford Stadium comes into view. The 2021 National Champion Georgia Bulldogs tee it up "between the hedges" in the fall with nearly 93K DawgNation faithful in attendance. South campus begins at Ag Hill, home to the agricultural, science & engineering programs. This part of campus features DW Brooks Mall to create a beautiful green space honoring UGA's strong agricultural history.
The State Botanical Garden of Georgia at the University of Georgia is a short drive from downtown Athens and it is BEAUTIFUL! Admission and parking at the garden is free. If you enjoy the garden, we ask that you please consider making a small donation at the visitor’s desk or learning about other ways you can support the garden. The Alice H. Richards Children's Garden is an exploration and a journey, not something you just walk through. Everything is designed with attention to detail and an interactive, educational component. The children's garden is free and open to the public and is an interactive outdoor classroom for hands-on education. Unlike any other in the Southeast, it is an experience crafted in layers, for children to explore under, around and through. Covid Update, May 6 2021: The Alice H. Richards Children’s Garden is open for play and exploration from 7 AM - 7 PM daily!
